It ain’t about you!

*****LADIES - if you come to this passage thinking about how you can use this passage to loosen the reigns of your husbands authority…You’re wrong. You missed it. You’ll never see what Paul is trying to teach here.
*****MEN - if you’ve come to this passage to study how you can explain to your wives, and others, why you have authority over your wife…or why men have authority over women in the church. You’re wrong! You’ll never see what Paul is trying to teach here.
We shoudl come to this passage, and EVERY passage in the Bible with Jesus in mind. After all, the Bible Ain’t about you. Its about Jesus. And if you can’t read the Bible from that perspective…you really need to put the Bible down and ask the God who wrote it to change your heart and mind to ask the question, what do I see God saying about Jesus here.
I believe that we were led to pick 1 Corinthians because we believed we were on the eve of finally planting a church in Mitro. And as a new church in Corinth they were doing many things wrong. Mostly because it was a complete culture change for them. Jews and Gentiles worshipping together???? Jewish Culture and Pagan cultures colliding into one body to worship one God. We expected to meet some of the same challenges in planting a church with people from an Albanian Muslim culture.
So much of the principles that we’ve learned so far in the 1st epistle to the Corinthians help us see in advance what not to do. But I’m afraid to say that one principle that I have experienced throughout this book that I see present even among self is the doctrine of self.
Paul isn’t just giving them a list of do’s and don’ts. Paul is showing them they are considering themselves more than they are considering Christ.
*****I’m giving you permission, if/when you see me living in a way that doesn’t point to Jesus…you call me out!

The Christians at Corinth would not insist on their rights at the expense of others if they were acting in love (1 Cor. 8–10), nor would the women uncover their heads immodestly in front of the other men and women in the community (1 Cor. 11:3–16).

This is a scandalous way to come to church in their day, but what does it look like for us today?
If Love is the filter in which we live by, how do you ultimately love Christ in insisting on your rights.
***Much of the problem in the Corinth Church was a spirit of superiority members had over each other.
