2 Timothy 1:5–6 KJV 1900
5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. 6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
2 Timothy 1:5–6 NASB95
5 For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

READ VERES 1- AND EALB
2 Timothy 1:5–6 NASB95
5 For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
1.Paul and Barnabus has visited southern Galatia on their 1st missionary journey. One of the cities was Lystra. A crippled man was healed in the name of Jesus. The people saw Paul as a God.
a. But later they drug him out of the city and stoned him, leaving him for dead. But God raised him up and he recovered and went back into the city.
b. When Pau left, he left a thriving church. While he was there he met Lois and her daughter Eunice. He was impressed with their faith.
c. On his 2nd missionary journey, when he came to Lystra, he picked up young Timothy (Eunice’s son) and he became a great man of God. So great that his name lives on forever in God’s word.
On the first 4 verses (read again) and Elab.
2 Timothy 1:4 NASB95
4 longing to see you, even as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy.
Paul says that is possible for Timothy to have the faith he did was because of the faith of his grandmother and mother.

I. Sincere faith. VS 5

1. At this point Paul was in prison. Not house arrest (Elab) like had been. But most likely in a like prison (Elab) waiting on his execution.
a. There had been some of Paul follower that had let him down.
2 Timothy 4:10 NASB95
10 for Demas, having loved this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
b. It had been some time since Paul had seen Timothy, but he had not forgotten the faith that was in him.
Unfeigned faith: Without hypocrisy (like Demas)
Undissembled. Basically it means sincere, genuine faith.
c. I see people (some moms, some not) on F.B that post things about God, but but there is no evidence in their lives. I don’t see that as sincere faith.
d. A mom that is “equipped” with sincere faith, are going to raise their kids with that faith. A faith that their kids will see.
e. She will make an impact not only what she does, but what her kids see.
READ VERSE AGAIN, FUCUS ON THE LAST PART.
1. What Timothy had seen in them was a sincere faith of his mom and grandmother was now in him.
a. He had surrendered his life to the Lord, out his trust in the Lord wisdom, His power.
b. Even though Paul had not seen in a long time, the reports he had gotten were good. He had a sincere faith. But He needed to be encouraged, this is why Paul wrote to him.

Sable faith. VS 5

2. These two moms. Timothy and Eunice’s Mom, not only had a sincere faith, they had a sable faith.
a. If Lois’s faith would have been a week faith, she could have never brought her up with a sincere faith.
b. But Lois’s faith was a sable faith and it stayed strong through the years. And it made an impact.
c. Thank God for the faith on mom’s that will last for generations.

Stirring faith. VS 6

Kenneth Wuest: For this cause I am reminding you to keep constantly blazing the gift of God which is in you through the imposition gift of God.
1. A good coach can get his team fired up with a great speech, stirring up something within to get his team going.
a. The faith of Lois and Eunice was spawned into Timothy.
b. Not every mother’s son becomes a preacher of a missionary. But every Godly mother’s son will have the faith of his mother stir up his soul.
c. Timothy had a great gift that God had given him. He learned this from the faithful mother and grandmother. Paul is reminding him, keep that flame going.
d. This is what I thought of while studying this. If you are a Christian, you have a gift of God in you. It may need to be stirred up some. If you’ve ever built a fire, and the flames start to die out. You have to stir up the coals to get the fire going again.
e. For Timothy, things were not always easy for him and a young pastor.
f. Not having Paul thee with him, he could have easily been discouraged and gave it all up. But there was that spark of faith that was in him, that he a gotten from his mom and his grandmother.
g. Theirs is like the prayer of a praying mom.
h. We need to pray for moms. Pray for moms to keep their faith. Pray moms that are not Christians to become Christians.
i. Pray for kids that were raised by Godly moms that have gotten off the path, to get back on.
h. Pray that that fire will be stirred up in all you us.
