Consequences of Impatience
Consequences of Impatience
Good morning, PL-lites…
Good morning, PL-lites…
Do you remember what is the character theme for this term?
Yes, that's right… it's patience…
And today, I am going to talk about patience… or rather the importance to have patience….
But first, I would need 3 volunteers…
Cake - with projection
Cake - with projection
Logistical requirements (think about whether can have a non-messy version)
1 packet of flour …1 packet of sugar…1 egg… 3 x cakes per session
Projection system… Phone… HDMI thingy…Bag to contain all
1 packet of sugar…
1 egg…
3 x cakes per session
Projection system…
PhoneHDMI thingy…Bag to contain all
DMI thingy…Bag to contain all
Ok can I get you to help me to put in the flour…
Can I get you to help me put in the sugar…
And can I get you to help me to put in the egg…
Thank you very much friends…
I'll now put this on this magic oven ok?
you may go back and take your seats…
Friends… do you think you can eat the mixture right now?
No right?
If you're too impatient to wait and have the mixture right now what will happen?
That's right… you will have a tummy-ache…
You should not eat raw egg because it is very bad for you…
You must have the patience for it to be properly baked not just for the flavors to come out, but also for all the bacteria to be killed…
Patience for things to be properly done is important if not there will be consequences…

Video of Prodigal Son Luke 15:11-32
And one place that we can learn about this in the Bible is taken from
Which is the parable of the Prodigal Son…
Rather than me reading it, and because there are so many verses, I thought I let someone else do it…
So let us watch this video to summarise this story for us…

God's Story: Two Sons and a Father
📷
<maybe the quick version as standby>
Slide on inheritance
Slide on inheritance
In this story, the prodigal son was impatient to get his share of the inheritance from his father…
And when do you usually get an inheritance?
Yes, that's right… when someone dies…
But the prodigal son didn't want to wait for that to happen and asked his father to give him his inheritance ahead of time…
<slide - not being mean>
But the problem is that the prodigal son wasn't ready to use the inheritance properly yet…
It's not that the father was trying to be mean to the son or did not want to give the son his inheritance…
It's just that it wasn't time yet…
And this was true from the way the son wasted all the money right?
<slide - wasting money>
<slide - wasting money>
He wasted the money buying things he didn't need…
Which didn't help him when he was hungry or needed a job….
He wasted the money buying things for his friends just to make himself feel good…
Who we know are not real friends for as soon as his money were gone, the friends disappeared…
He used money without learning how to earn money and without learning how to be careful about how to save money which was why he lost all the money so quickly…
The father didn't want to give him the money yet because the father wanted to continue to take care of the son and have him under his care…
To learn and to grow…
<slide - lost everything>
<slide - lost everything>
However, being impatient, the prodigal son lost everything and had nothing left…
We must all learn to be patient and learn that sometimes even when we really want something, we need to wait so that we will not be stuck in circumstances that are harmful to us…
<slide>
<slide>
So how does that apply to us?
Well…
Sometimes our teachers and our parents or guardians tell us things sometimes…
Like telling us that there are certain shows we shouldn't watch or hear certain songs because we are not ready for it…
Rather than saying… how come kor kor can watch it and I cannot? They are telling us not to do so to protect us… and we should be patient and know that if we were to watch or listen to them when we are not ready, we may hurt ourselves…
Or when your teacher or parents tell you, you shouldn't go to use the computer and go to the internet without their supervision, rather than saying how come jie jie can do so and I cannot?
We should ne patient and know that there will come a time when we will be able to tell what is good and what is bad, and decide for ourselves… but in the meantime, listen to them and appreciate the fact that they are there to protect you…
Or when you parents tell you, you cannot go outside your home alone, but need someone to accompany you, rather than say why not?
We should be patient and know that it is because they want to protect us and prevent us from being hurt… but in the meantime, listen to them and appreciate the fact that they are there to protect you…
Just like the cake that would be harmful to us if we just ate all the ingredient raw…
But we need to bake the cake to make sure that it is proper and ready to be eaten…
Be patient, and there will be a time when we will be ready to take up more responsibilities… but in the meantime, be patient and be thankful for your parents and teachers' care…
<slide prodigal father…>
<slide prodigal father…>
And you know what?
Your teachers and parents can't wait to let you soar and explore things yourselves…
To let you have fun with the things when you are able to exercise responsibilities
But because they love you and don't want you to hurt yourselves, they too are exercising patience to protect you…
Which reminds me…
<slide - alarm>
<slide - alarm>
Oh… what's the alarm for? And that is to tell us that our cake is ready…
Can I get my three chefs to come forward to see whether the cake is ready?
Yes… they are ready…
[give the cakes to the children]
And you know something, they were very patient to wait for the cakes to be ready… so shall we give them a round of applause to encourage them?
So friends, what did we learn today?
No, not that you can bake cake from a paper bag…
<slide on patience>
<slide on patience>
But that need to be patient and when we do not get things right now, or are not allowed to do certain things, it's because we are not ready for them…
