What a Comparison
What a Comparison
13 Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; And break forth into singing, O mountains: For the Lord hath comforted his people, And will have mercy upon his afflicted.
14 But Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, And my Lord hath forgotten me.
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, That she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, Yet will I not forget thee.
16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; Thy walls are continually before me.
Mother’s day is such a special day - Some fun facts about this special day.
25% of all flowers purchased throughout the year are purchased on Mother’s Day
Over $14 Billion dollars are spent annually on Mother’s day
Average $ spent per mom is $186.00
The oldest woman in the bible to have a baby was Sarah - she was 90 years old -
The oldest woman in modern history to have a child - was and Indian woman - Satyabhama - - April 9th of 2003 - she was 65 years old (married for 50 years before she became pregnant)
Elizabeth Buttle gave birth to her 1st little girl on May 19, 1956, and then gave birth to her little brother 41 years later - November 20, 1997 - she was 60 when she had her 2nd child.
Moms are special people -
Not only to the children
not only to the spouse
not only to the parents -
Mom’s are special to the entire world.
There are those of us here that are blessed to still have our mom’s:
My mom and mother & Law are still with us - we are very blessed… We were able to spend some time together with the whole family last night - what a blessing!
There are those who have lost their mom - some recent / others it has been a long time...
mothers day to these is a day of loss and hurt
Then - there are some people here today that do not have fond memories of mom..
mother’s day to them is a day to forget -
Granted - there are some people here today that do not have fond memories of mom..
a day to hear about all the great mom’s that they wished they would have had
sometimes it is a mental battle - guilt for not caring about them the way they wish they could.
Illustration:
Yesterday I was getting my hair cut, and the lady that was cutting my hair was telling me about a young 16 year old girl that they have taken in - This lady and her husband had 4 or 5 boys - but no girls. This 16 year old girl was living on the river bottoms with her mom and brother - the mom is an addict - and this girl has been trying to survive… go to high school and get through this trial. This little girl will probably not grow up with great love and thankfulness for her mom… it is a story that is all too true - so many times over… a woman who loves her drugs, her addiction more than her own children.
Praise the Lord for what he can do & how He can give deliverance over the addictions addictions and will break the chains that binds people in sin!
The Lord was trying to convey his love for his children - Israel
Israel - the nation / God’s chosen people -Jewish people -
In we find the Lord trying to explain the great depth of love that he has for his people -
They were imperfect
they were in a time of judgement
But - they were not forgotten...
How would the Lord convey his love to us in a way we could understand?
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, That she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, Yet will I not forget thee.

The comparison that the Lord chose- the Love of a mother...
What a Comparison
What a Comparison
Pray:
Is there a closer bond - humanly speaking than that of a mother and her children?
We know that the husband / wife - the marital relationship is to be a relationship of oneness -
eph
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
But the love / connection / compassion / care that a mother has for her child is unbelievable...
The Lord said:
Can a woman forget the child she has nursed?
the answer of course is no… the affection and the nurturing love and care that a mom has for her baby is one that only a mom can understand.
coaching basketball - I was the athletic coordinator for our school in WA - Basketball coach for 17 years… (Bro. David’s mom was the basketball coach before me)
Men - suck it up - no blood - no foul...
there is no bone sticking out - keep playing… don’t quit - dig, dig, dig...
Mom took them to the dr… (how was I supposed to know that I was telling them to keep playing on a broken foot?)
mom knew something was wrong… dad - suck it up son… you can rest after the game...
What a Comparison that the Lord made...
The love of God for his people
The love of a mother for her child...
A mothers love is a love that is deep...
A mothers love is a love that is selfless
A mother’s love is a love that is sincere
A mother’s love is a love that is sacrificial
A mothers love is a love that is unconditional
What a love...
How can this be???
A Mother’s Love is a God like Love
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, That she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, Yet will I not forget thee.
God’s love is a forever love
He will never forget...
A mom’s love is a forever love - she will never forget...
she will never forget the nurturing, caring, caressing, kissing...
a mom’s love is so sweet
in a day when we see the manifestation of -
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
it is wonderful to see the love our moms have for their children…
It is wonderful to watch as they nurture and care for their children...
A Mother’s Love is a God Like Love
A Godly Mother Reveals God to her Children
God’s very nature is love
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
God’s love is everlasting
3 The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: Therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
God’s love is committed
23 And he said, Lord God of Israel, There is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart:
God’s love is sacrificial
16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; Thy walls are continually before me.
God’s love is giving
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
No greater comparison could have been made by the Lord -
His love for us is so great - that there would be no point of reference on how great that love would - be… Except - to compare The love God has for us - to the Love a mother has for her child...
What a comparison...
What a comparison...
If you are here - and you had that type of of mother - loving, caring, compassionate...
Let me tell you - that the Love the Lord has for us will surpass that great love...
If you are here - and you never had that type of love...
Come to the Lord today - and you will experience a love that is so great… no love will ever transcend or surpass the love that God has for you… trust him today!
