Discipleship Keys from Ephesus

Setting the stage (Acts 18-19)
When Paul arrived in Ephesus He spoke boldly in the synagogue for about 3 months — but some of them rejected Him and caused so much trouble that Paul shook the dust from his feet and took the message to the street…ministering to both Jew and Greek for about 2 years
Acts 19:11 NIV
God did extraordinary miracles through Paul,
Acts 19:14–20 NIV
Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor. Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed what they had done. A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas. In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.

Some discipleship keys from Ephesus
The priorities of the people
The epistle to the Ephesian church reveals their needs, their strengths, etc. And Paul reaffirms His role as Apostle and missionary sent by God.
The pastoral priorities
2. The pastoral priorities
What significance is there to leading a church that disciples?
What role does the pastor play?
Look at Paul’s letters to Timothy and Titus for a great description
3. The leadership community and outreach
The leadership community and outreach
Paul’s lectures in the hall of Tyrannus served as a training ground for new leaders - demonstrating real evangelism in action.
By piecing together the relationship between training and evangelism and seeing how it was done locally (Ephesus) and in Asia, we can discover Ephesus’ formal strategies for reproduction and multiplication — Anderson
