Intro- how culture is and Christianity today are like the tide...
They lived each day like it was their last.
Fear is less powerful when you know the end.

The early church while being engaged in the present was motivated by the future.

Matthew 16:18–19 NIV
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
They lived each day like it was their last.

Fear is less powerful when you know the end.

2 Corinthians 4:16–18 NIV
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

We must live as if our present determines our (and others) eternity.

Philippians 3:13–14 NIV
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Too many of us want a moment when Jesus wants a movement.

Jesus isn’t calling us to live in the past but rather to be present for the sake of the future.

Being holy is more about who you are than what you do.

1 Peter 1:13–16 NIV
Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

I believe revival is coming but it starts in each of our own hearts.

Can’t expect culture to change if we don’t change

Romans 15:13 NIV
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

I believe revival is coming but it starts in each of our own hearts.

Being holy is more about who you are than what you do.

In the NT the ceremonial holiness prominent in the Pentateuch recedes to the background. Whereas much of Judaism in Jesus’ time sought a ceremonial holiness by works (Mk 7:1–13), the NT stresses the ethical rather than the formal dimension of holiness. With the coming of the Holy Spirit, the early church perceived that holiness of life was a profound internal reality that should govern an individual’s thoughts and attitudes in relation to persons and objects in the external world.
