Acts 17:
God made us to seek Him
GOD DIDN’T MAKE US BECAUSE HE WAS LONELY

Jeremiah 31:3 NASB95
The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.

Acts 17:24–28 NASB95
“The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His children.’
Acts 17:11 NASB95
Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.
Ultimately God created man in His Image

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Sin enters the world
Genesis 3:6–7 NASB95
When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
1 John 1:8–10 NASB95
If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
-1-
Romans 2:14–15 NASB95
For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them,

Communication
separation from God (; )
MAN’S REGENERATION
Was A par of God’s Eternal Purpose
Ephesians 1:4 NASB95
just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love
1 Peter 1:20 NASB95
For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
God was under no obligation to save man
angels sinned in ; jude 6
Hebrews 2:16 NASB95
For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham.
1 ) We do not deserve God’s love
Rom. 5:6-10
Romans 5:6–10 NASB95
For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
1 John 4:10 NASB95
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
2) the love of God is universal
John 3:15–16 NASB95
so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
1 Timothy 2:4 NASB95
who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Peter 3:9 NASB95
The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
John 5:40 NASB95
and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
3) God’s love is practical and sacrificial
Galatians 1:4 NASB95
who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,
Gal. 3:
Romans 5:8 NASB95
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
John 3:16 NASB95
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
The love of God is unquenchable
Romans 8:35ff NASB95
Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, For Your sake we are being put to death all day long; We were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
GOD’S PLAN FOR HUMAN REGENERATION
Galatians 4:4 NASB95
But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
After the intial fall of man in , mankind continue to spiral deeeper into wickidness God sent the Great Flood in to purge the earth. From there god raised up Abraham as the beginnjijg of the Hebrew Nation. Several centuries later God used Moses to bring forth The Law. It accomplished 3 goals.
It defined sin
Romans 7:7 NASB95
What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
Romans 7:13 NASB95
Therefore did that which is good become a cause of death for me? May it never be! Rather it was sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin by effecting my death through that which is good, so that through the commandment sin would become utterly sinful.
2) the Law showed that man could never by his own merit or effort justify himself
Romans 3:20–24 NASB95
because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
3) Pointed the way to the coming Messiah
Christ In the OT
Matthew 5:17 NASB95
“Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.
John 5:39 NASB95
“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;
Luke 24:44 NASB95
Now He said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”
the OT pointed to jesus in several ways
1)theophanies ( - Angel of The Lord, three men; 22:1; ) = God appearances
The “Angel” is referred to with masculine pronouns (; ).He is identified as God (, ; ).3He performed miracles (; ).Gideon and Manoah thought they would die because they saw the “Angel” face to face (; ).The “Angel” accurately foretold future events ().His name is “wonderful” (; cf., ).He destroyed 185,000 soldiers of the Assyrian army in one night ()
2) types - lamb of wass type of the coming lamb of God, scapegoat, sin offering
John 1:29 NASB95
The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
3) prophecies
WHY REDEMPTION THROUGH THE DEATH OF JESUS
1)God is Holy
Isaiah 6:3 NASB95
And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.”
Revelation 4:8 NASB95
And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come.”
Habakkuk 1:13 NASB95
Your eyes are too pure to approve evil, And You can not look on wickedness with favor. Why do You look with favor On those who deal treacherously? Why are You silent when the wicked swallow up Those more righteous than they?
Habb
The Lord is Holy and Just so sin must be punished
Psalm 89:14 NASB95
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Lovingkindness and truth go before You.
God is also loving and rich in mercy
1 John 4:8 NASB95
The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
;8
Eph. 2:
Ephesians 2:4 NASB95
But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
How can Holy and just God justify sinful man Christ
Romans 3:24–26 NASB95
being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
Romans 3:24ff NASB95
being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one. Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law.
John 1:1–4 NASB95
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.
John 1:14 NASB95
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Philippians 2:5–11 NASB95
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Phillippians
1 Timothy 3:16 NASB95
By common confession, great is the mystery of godliness: He who was revealed in the flesh, Was vindicated in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Proclaimed among the nations, Believed on in the world, Taken up in glory.
Hebrews 4:15 NASB95
For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
Heb. 4;
2 Corinthians 5:21 NASB95
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
1 Peter 2:22 NASB95
who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth;
the father allowed him to stand in for us
Isaiah 53:5–6 NASB95
But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.
