Thank you father

Fatherly Advice
Fathers have a responsibility to love, instruct and discipline their children in the ways of the Lord. In return they are to be honored and obeyed by their children.
The role of fathers
To love and care for their children
(NIV) — 13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
See also ; ; ;
(NIV) — 31 and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”
(NIV) — 4 His sons used to hold feasts in their homes on their birthdays, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would make arrangements for them to be purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom.
(NIV) — 9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
(NIV) — 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
To discipline their children
(NIV) — 24 Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.
See also ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;
(NIV) — 5 Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.
(NIV) — 18 If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, 19 his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. 20 They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.” 21 Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.
(NIV) — 11 My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, 12because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.
(NIV) — 5 A fool spurns a parent’s discipline, but whoever heeds correction shows prudence.
(NIV) — 18 Discipline your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death.
(NIV) — 15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far away.
(NIV) — 13 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die.
(NIV) — 15 A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom, but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother.
(NIV) — 2 Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. 5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)
(NIV) — 12 A deacon must be faithful to his wife and must manage his children and his household well.
(NIV) — 7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
To instruct their children
(NIV) — 2 I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old— 3 things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us. 4 We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done. 5 He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, 6 so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. 7 Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands. 8 They would not be like their ancestors— a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to him.
See also ; ; ; ; ; ; ;
(NIV) — 9 Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.
(NIV) — 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
(NIV) — 20 In the future, when your son asks you, “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the Lord our God has commanded you?” 21 tell him: “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 22 Before our eyes the Lord sent signs and wonders—great and terrible—on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household. 23 But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors. 24 The Lord commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the Lord our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today.
(NIV) — 18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.
(NIV) — 13 Their children, who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
(NIV) — 1 A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not respond to rebukes.
(NIV) — 6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
(NIV) — 4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
The rights of fathers
To be honoured by their children
(NIV) — 12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
See also ; ; ; ;
(NIV) — 3 “ ‘Each of you must respect your mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.
(NIV) — 4 For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’
(NIV) — 17 “Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.
(NIV) — 17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied, “ ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”
(NIV) — 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise—3“so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
To be obeyed by their children
(NIV) — 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
(NIV) — 20 My son, keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
(NIV) — 32 “Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways.
(NIV) — 51 Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.
(NIV) — 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
