HEARING AND DOING THE WORD

A GENEROUS AND GROWING CHURCH

41 So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand people were added to them. 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.

43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles. 44 Now all the believers were together and held all things in common. 45 They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

19 My dear brothers and sisters, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, 20 for human anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness. 21 Therefore, ridding yourselves of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent, humbly receive the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like someone looking at his own face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of person he was. 25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who works—this person will be blessed in what he does.
God has established His word to teach us, correct us, to rebuke us, and train us in rigteousness…Timothy 3:16 let’s go there...
The unity of an assembly or a body of believers can only be accomplished in and through the word of God.
Outside of the Word that community will not only be challenged and defeated, but also it will not be able to grow together nor grow in numbers.
Philippians 2:2  make my joy complete by thinking the same way, having the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. make my joy complete by thinking the same way, having the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.
Now in order to accomplish this, we must corperately develop a strong desire for the written word, so that our minds can be reknewed into the mind of the living word.
The A part of speaks to the dedication and commitment to the Apostles teachings by those who came into the family of The Kingdom of God.
Now this is what I want us to focus on tonight.
The importance of committing to the word of God as a community.
It’s dangerous to be only focused on tone dimention of the word of God.
You have people that only focus on one or the other when I believe God wants our focus to be both.
Let’s look at Mary and Martha....
I call this The Balance of the Word Luke 10:38-42
