In Or Out

Read
Looking at what is more important the outside or the inside, is it more important to look good on the outside which might mean we have had to compromise on some things or that God sees that we are good on the inside.
A statement at the beginning of this is this: “ What we are is more important than what we say”.
It’s easy to speak a good life to say how close to God you walk but is that how you are living your life.
If we could expend as much, many do on the outer, how much better would we be, what characters we would have, do you know the inner & outer man or woman.
When Jean-Baptiste Massilon had preached before King Louie fourteenth on this subject of the inner & outer man the King exclaimed as he left the church “i know these 2 Men” do you know yours is it time to work on the inner one.
We all fall to the same temper, we judge people by our own standards, on how we would do things & if they don’t do it our way then we play up.
our own standards, on how we would do things & if they don’t do it our way then we play up.
our own standards, on how we would do things & if they don’t do it our way then we play up.
We need to be compassionate towards the faults of others, even when they repay our good with evil or criticize or are abusive about us or what we have done in blessing them.
Live well, live a life of pleasing God, surely our aim in life is to put Christ firmly on the throne of our lives, that Jesus should be recognized in each of us as Lord & Master.
It’s important to be of good conscience, you have to live with yourself, Paul always put into action to have a conscience void of offense to God & Man.
Acts 23
Acts 23:1 ESV
And looking intently at the council, Paul said, “Brothers, I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day.”
Acts 24
Acts 24:16 ESV
So I always take pains to have a clear conscience toward both God and man.
This is so important especially when it comes time to share your testimony, what people hear from us must tally up with how we live.
I think we need to understand this from
John 13:35 ESV
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
to often we take offense as Christians & then act in the wrong way when this scripture is key, it’s an underlying principle for how we live our lives, people must see that Christ followers each other above all other things.
People watch you when you say your a Christian to see if your life measure up to your words, watch how you deal with adversity, how you interact with others.
Peter here wants to impress on us the church that our relationships with each other isn’t entirely inward looking, People watch, Jesus must be our model for how to live.
Verses 10-12 are a direct quote from
Psalm 34:
Psalm 34:12–16 ESV
What man is there who desires life and loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry. The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.
& it contains key phrase “do good” & just as in chapter 2 it highlights the tongue.
1 Peter 2:1 ESV
So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.
1 Peter 2:9 ESV
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
The way we speak reveals who we are & how we live, the problem is when we don’t control our tongues people get the wrong impression of who Jesus is & don’t see any difference in the church from the world.
We are to be peace seekers, peace makers, Paul in
Romans 15:5 ESV
May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,
God calls us to live in such harmony with one another, through this people will see the greatness of God.
He is our Hope.
Don’t be people that wine & winge about the things your going through. .
David lays out what is going on in his life, how he is feeling & yet at the same time says, “you are my rock & my fortress, i know you are with me, he really lays it before God but look at the last verse.
Psalm 31:24 ESV
Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!
psalm 31:
Be ready with a testimony of what Jesus has done in your life, verse 15 says honour his name not yours & always be ready to give the reason for the Hope you have.
Can you give a reason for the Hope you have, you don’t have to be a preacher or an evangelist, what has Jesus done for you, what has he done through you. It’s good to know these things keep them in your mind, within your Spirit. When things haven’t gone your way or your in the midst of it all, who are you?
You are beloved of God, part of a royal priesthood, a living stone, a saint, a co-heir with Christ, you are loved from before the Earth was shaped you were thought of.
When Jesus was born you were thought of, when Jesus went on the cross you were thought of.
