What does it mean to be safe?
-In our world today there are colleges that have places they designate as safe spaces
-Numerous schools – Armstrong State University in Georgia, Concordia College—Moorhead in Minnesota, Kent State University in Ohio, the University of South Carolina and James Madison University in Virginia, among them – have Safe Zone and Safe Space programs in place that train students, faculty members and administrators to be special allies to minority groups.
-creation of places where students can retreat from the stresses of being in the minority and spend time among like-minded peers
-Safety can be an elusive idea
-do people’s words make us unsafe?
-being in a place where I am the minority in race or ideal.....am I unsafe?

-One thing I think it is important for us to understand in our current situation is that the definition of being safe and feeling safe have a pretty large gap.
-You can become acclimatized to your environment no matter where you live
Here in the US by and large the safety that we talk about is many times personal safety.
-Make sure you walks in groups at night, make sure there are people who know where you are going and who you’re going with so they can check in with you.
-There are areas of our country that deal with gang violence, drugs, homelessness.
-However there are a different set of experiences living in a sections of the world who live in worn torn countries, and villages.
-In these places of the world you take your own life into your hands going outside of your house for any reason and many times even being in your house doesn’t guarantee any kind of safety.
-People learn to live their lives in these regions and soon it becomes a normal part of their life to know any day could be their last.

6 In that day the wolf and the lamb will live together;
the leopard will lie down with the baby goat.
The calf and the yearling will be safe with the lion,
and a little child will lead them all.
7 The cow will graze near the bear.
The cub and the calf will lie down together.
The lion will eat hay like a cow.
8 The baby will play safely near the hole of a cobra.
Yes, a little child will put its hand in a nest of deadly snakes without harm.
9 Nothing will hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,
for as the waters fill the sea,
so the earth will be filled with people who know the Lord.
3 themes happening.
1st theme of equity
and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
eq·ui·ty
/ˈekwədē/
and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together;
noun
noun: equity; singular proper noun: Equity; noun: Equity
1. the quality of being fair and impartial.
and a little child shall lead them.
Interestingly enough a synonym for equity is righteousness
-It says a wolf and a lamb WILL LIVE together.
-In this place hear think about the food chain
-What makes an animal higher or lower on the food chain?
-What determines the place in life this animal has?
-The ability to assert power on another and who else can assert their power over you. Who or what hunts you?
-Children in the context of this writing were one of the most powerless people in the political and social structures........and In this context of how this new community will function they are leading the powerful.
2nd theme addresses issues of physical position
7 The cow and the bear shall graze;
have you ever seen how groups of animals eat in the wild?
slide of groups eating with one animal watching for danger
their young shall lie down together;
There is always one animal that waits till the last or eats first and then allows the group to eat so they can watch for danger.....other predators.
Isaiah gives us a picture here where not only is there no animal keeping watch....because the predator is eating hay or grass alongside of the animal that would typically be their prey.
3rd theme addresses issue of power
and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
Verse 9 gives us the climax as to the reason all of this can be held in place
- Knowledge in the Old Testament connotes an intimate acquaintance with something. This is not so much knowledge “about,” in the sense of an objective, mental apprehension. Rather, a personal relationship is implied between an individual and the object, whether a spiritual relationship as between worshipper and deity
and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder’s den.

In the Lion Lamb Community there is no power structure because all fall under the head of Jesus Christ.
This week I asked us what makes us feel safe and you all answered
Ways that God has made us feel safe
- because it was self- sacrifice that broke the power of sin and death.
the Lord protects him and keeps him alive;
he is called blessed in the land;
you do not give him up to the will of his enemies.

Ephesians 6:10-
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
for the Lord will be your confidence
and will keep your foot from being caught.
Do not be afraid of sudden terror
or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes,
for the Lord will be your confidence
and will keep your foot from being caught.
Protection
-Spiritual
-The Lord provides us what we need to stay in a relationship with him and resist temptation should we desire to remain in that relationship with him.
Proverbs 3:25-26
“I will make with them a covenant of peace and banish wild beasts from the land, so that they may dwell securely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods. And I will make them and the places all around my hill a blessing, and I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be showers of blessing. And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land. And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke, and deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them. They shall no more be a prey to the nations, nor shall the beasts of the land devour them. They shall dwell securely, and none shall make them afraid. And I will provide for them renowned plantations so that they shall no more be consumed with hunger in the land, and no longer suffer the reproach of the nations. And they shall know that I am the Lord their God with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, declares the Lord God. And you are my sheep, human sheep of my pasture, and I am your God, declares the Lord God.”
And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land. And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke, and deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them.
Ezekiel 34:25-31
But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.

-Spiritual
-God gives us HIS power
In the Lion Lamb Community
Strength and Power is found in the relationship we have with Jesus
-There is no power play at the foot of the cross because it was self- sacrifice that broke the power of sin and death.
We know we are valued
Value is not measured by how what you do have or don’t have
Value is not measured by what you can or cannot do
Our Value is established by the one who died for us
We know we will be cared for
Physically
Emotionally
Spiritually
We know we will be empowered
God has made us unique and different
-He made people who are like lions
-He made people who are like lambs
God has transformed us......last week we talked about this
So those who are lions are no longer using their power for self
the Lions are using their power to empower the powerless
Scripture clearly shows us in that God empowers and equips us with everything we need to stand up against our spiritual enemy.
