// INTRODUCTION

Identity - Bumper
Theory: the growth of virtual social environments has caused us to become less social in person.
video games have in some ways promoted violence & bullying
social media has prompted people to “express” their mind a lot more freely, and not in a loving way
John 13:35 ESV
35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
So what happened? How did we get here?

1. The World Broke

Since the moment that Adam and Eve sinned, the world has been in this fallen state.
Fallen from what?
Fallen from a pure relationship with God.
When God created the Garden of Eden and placed man into it, He had a physical relationship with them. The bible says he would walk with them in the garden.
We see this represented when Adam and Eve ate the fruit that they physically went and hid.
The moment Adam & Eve said yes to their own desires instead of God’s, they broke their relationship.
Look at what Satan uses to get Eve...
Genesis 3:1 ESV
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”
“did God actually say...”
Genesis 3:4–5 ESV
4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
In this moment pre-sin, Adam and Eve already knew the different between good and evil - God had already told them, take dominion, eat anything you want just not this one tree.
The result of their actions caused them to be removed from the boundaries that God had setup for them called the Garden of Eden.
And thus, we have ...
Romans 3:23 ESV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
But the hope is that it took one man to mess it all up, it only takes one man to make right - cue Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:22 ESV
22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
Romans 3:23 ESV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
So how can we be made alive? How can I be free?

2. Break the Chains of Comfort

Two Voices

There are two constant voices that battle for our attention:
God
Man

What does Man say?

Loser
Ugly
Weak
Annoying
Worthless
“You’re only good if I say you are”
CHOICE: we have the choice to listen to what man is saying and buy in or we can reject it
The way we can reject it is by knowing who we are - and the only way we can know who we are is by looking at whose image we are created in!

What does God say?

I breathed my breath into your lungs (Gen 2:7)
I made you…in my image (Gen 1:27)
Fearfully & wonderfully made ()
I love you ()
You are worth dying for (, )
Whose voice would you rather live off of?
Galatians 1:10 ESV
10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Servant Mindset: the servant only cares what his master thinks of him.
When placed before us, the choice seems so easy, yet many times we are quick to believe the labels that man puts on us.
When placed before us, the choice seems so easy, yet many times we are quick to believe the labels that man puts on us.
The devil will give you labels, but God gives you a name.”

Faith Unlocks

I think the greatest struggle we actually face is not the voices of others, but the voices of the inners.
The greatest things that hold us back is the voice inside that tells us we can’t.
It’s our faith in God that will allow us to be set free from this crippling mindset.
Galatians 3:26 ESV
26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.
Gal 3:2
Faith is the key that unlocks the chains the world puts on us.
Grace (favor) is the fuel that keeps us from going back to the comfort of the chains.
How can I be free to be me?

3. Living in Freedom (dead to sin, alive in Christ)

Remember: we were separated from God the moment Adam and Eve sinned - well we saw that through one man’s (Adam) sin we were separated, but through one man’s (Jesus) obedience we were redeemed.
This is where faith kicks in...
DO YOU BELIEVE THAT JESUS DIED ON A CROSS, AND IF SO, DO YOU BELIEVE THAT HIS DEATH WAS ENOUGH TO RESTORE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD?
If you say yes, that is faith!
It’s us knowing that we know...
Romans 6:23 ESV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
This idea of our sin/separation no longer being there, is grace.
The freedom to be me - the me that God created, not the me the world wants me to be.
Faith is the key that unlocks the chains the world puts on us.
Grace (favor) is the fuel that keeps us from going back to the comfort of the chains.

Now What?

It doesn’t matter if someone on social comments poorly on your stuff.
It doesn’t matter that someone at school, who doesn’t have relationship with you, thinks that you are less than.
It doesn’t matter when someone tells you, you will never amount to anything.
What does God say about you?
That is all that you need!

To-Do:

write what God says you are on your mirror
make it your phone background
put it on your journal
put it on your TV or computer
make a bracelet or necklace out of it
Keep God’s thoughts about you priority over man’s thoughts about you.
