Heart of the house series
Turn to your neighbour say - this s not for you .. its for me!
This house - gods house - God first in investment of time, energy, decisions family , relationships, choices , job, actions, money!!!
God calls us to be financially Generous - the heart of the house is financially generous!
we love money huh! talking about money, not enough what would you do if you won the lottery stuff like that .. sso here we are what doe sit look like to be financially generous
Sa at the bottom - get our mindset right - ownership we serve God with all that we are right? God first in all that we are/have why is it uncomfortable when it comes to money?
have a wriggle loosen us lets go!
Ownership - God is the source of all things owner/creator
Haggai 2:8 ESV
The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the Lord of hosts.
Psalm 24:1 ESV
The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein,
Haggai
Psalm 50:10 ESV
For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.
1 Chronicles 29:12 ESV
Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.
1 Chroni
God is our creator and source of everything it is all his all that we have
God is our creator and source of everything it is all his all that we have
GOD - OWNER US - STEWARDS - a steward is entrusted with something that belongs to someone else to look after in the manner that the owner would want you to do with it and make flourish.
James 1:17 ESV
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
So what does the word of God say, ot/nt old covenant new covenant, the bible has lots to say about what we should do/how we should use our money
OT teaching of Tithe:
Tithe literally means 10 % or a tenth -
OT teaching tithe was 10% off the top, not the end! towards the Levites - to fund ministry like but not exactly the same as in the church today
Proverbs 3:9 ESV
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce;
Exodus 34:26 ESV
The best of the firstfruits of your ground you shall bring to the house of the Lord your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.”
in addition
OT also talks about offerings 10% given to various festivals and feasts
in addition
potentially 23-27% to the poor, offerings and gleaning given to the poor so total tithe 25% 10 for ministry the rest offerings for for festivals
depending on which scholar you prefer.
move into the NT you dont her a lot about tithes -
Pharisees and religious leaders try and argue with Jesus - JEsus does give and tithe and obey the OT laws..
But the NT does say a lot about generosity, money, wealth heart and worship of God
money given cheefuly, sacrificially, regularly, look up a wealth on how to give generously: God loves a cheerful giver. it talks of sacrifice generosity and the source of reason to give… our example… Jesus God is a generous God
uncomfortable? flip it mark driscoll,
Why should God get 10% of my money - i thinks its amazing that God lets me keep 90%
generous sacrificial cheerful regular giving ..worship gift of sacrifuce
Matthew 6:24 ESV
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
whose first
do you trust in your wealth
You either worship your wealth or you worship with your wealth
if you worship with your wealth you - you are able to freely cheerfully give to church, generously mission - the poor - god to those in need and thank God you get to be a steward
If you worship your wealth you have a hard time being generous giving back to God and others
leo bigger - lottery winners how is it that they can win millions and within a year be bankrupt? reflection of their heart and soul - small it shrinks to your faith
comfort security found in the money not God,it is so difficult to give out of that
God is the source of your comfort and security we hold everything in our hands lighlty as good stewards and are free to give generously.
Why and how do we give? and give generously
Your your position relationship right/God First / God as the source/God as the example of generosity
He wants us to be generous so we can share in His Joy - not prosperity we don’t give to get, God is not a slot machine -
So as Jesus God Himself is our example -
Jesus is the greatest example of the most extravagant giving -
He came from extreme wealth heaven- the source of everything streets paved with gold, born into humanity into poverty, humbly he was poor. from abundance to nthing
God in extreme generosity gave what we could not give, paid what we could not pay out of his poverty, He only had one son and he gave his life .. so that whoever believes in Him
adopted into His family - His inheritance - heirs - stewards to the estate - starts here
or journey needs to be be more of him and less of us, we release this when we fully capture His heart and His ownership and our stewardship of money
we are a selfish people
2 Corinthians 8:7 ESV
But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also.
Proverbs 21:26 ESV
All day long he craves and craves, but the righteous gives and does not hold back.
2 Corinthians
Proverbs 21
we are a selfish people - you don’t need to teach a child to be selfish - here sit there and i’m going to take a toy you want and you need to scream no no no!
God wants us to steward his finance generously so we can share in his joy -
Matthew 6:24 ESV
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

how do you give? not when you feel like it!!!!! pray what you feel!!!!!!!
What is God asking of you
Todays culture focus on “its all abut you, do what makes you feel good” Treat yourself, enjoy yourself
Jesus says if you want to follow me
Matthew 16:24–26 ESV
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
leo bigger - lottery winners how is it that they can win millions and within a year be bankrupt? reflection of their heart and soul - small it shrinks to your faith
God gave without holding back where are you going to start - a tithe is good build into the vision, take ownership you are the church
Examine your heart what do you need to surrender to God to help you become a cheerful/ generous Giver
we can have a different mindset when it comes to giving
The bag mindset - never enough
Haggai 1:6 ESV
You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes.
Haggai
keep what you have - stagnant pond
Basket mindset - you have enough
Deuteronomy 28:2–5 ESV
And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
Deuteronomy
Luke 6:38 ESV
give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
flowing new life
Barn mindset - Extravagant, irrational giving the woman with the alabaster jar.... judas a thief, bag mindset, did hold the bag and stole was outraged, just couldnt get it!!!
she didn’t hold anything back

1 Kings 17:7–16 ESV
And after a while the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land. Then the word of the Lord came to him, “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you.” So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.” And as she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, “Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.” And she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. And now I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die.” And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth.’ ” And she went and did as Elijah said. And she and he and her household ate for many days. The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah.
