Text -
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Title - How Good Triumphs Over Evil
Introductory Words
Man knows there is war between good and evil, and that good must overcome evil.
Good must win over evil, otherwise there is no justice.
But man’s view of victory over evil is limited to vengeance.
If there is to be justice in this world, evil must be avenged.
When justice is served, good triumphs over evil.
What man fails to see is that -
Vengeance belongs to God - ; ;
there other ways - better ways - of winning over evil
Mercy -
Biblical foundations on “good versus evil”
God is all good. There is no evil in Him.
Evil comes from the law of sin
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.
For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.
Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.
For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man.
Romans 7.18-22
Good men/women commit sin
For there is not a just man on earth who does good And does not sin.
God’s goodness makes way for a repentant sinner
The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.
“But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live.
Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord God, “and not that he should turn from his ways and live?
Ezekiel 18.20-23

Bless - Do Not Curse
Bless - Do Not Curse
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
Bless, because you are sons of your Father in heaven.
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
Matthew 5.44-45
Blessing is a partner of love
Blessing separates you from sinners.
Luke 6.27-2
“But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.
To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either.
Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back.
And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.
“But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.
And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
Bless by praying for the person.

Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

Have a Humble Mind
Romans 12.15
Weep with those who suffer
SYMPHATIZING SHOULD WORK BOTH WAYS - FOR THE OFFENDED PARTY AND THE OFFENDING PARTY.
Have a Humble Mind
Have a Humble Mind
Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.
Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
Humble mind means having the same judgment.
Humble mind means not thinking of “high things” especially of oneself
Humble mind means not being wise in your own opinion
Never Pay back evil for evil
Never Pay back evil for evil
Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men.
See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.
Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;
not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
Be Peaceable
Be Peaceable
If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.
Romans 12.18
Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
Hebrews 12.
For “He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit.
Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
Refuse to avenge yourself
Refuse to avenge yourself
Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”
Romans 12.19
Vengeance belongs to God
Vengeance is given to enemies, those who insults the grace of God, and those who do not obey the gospel.
Therefore the Lord says, The Lord of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, “Ah, I will rid Myself of My adversaries, And take vengeance on My enemies.
Isaiah
God is jealous, and the Lord avenges; The Lord avenges and is furious. The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries, And He reserves wrath for His enemies;
Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?
For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.”
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Hebrews 10.29
and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,
in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
