John 12:30 NIV84
Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit, not mine.

Jesus has an understanding of what His Father is about and doing. He is in line with His Father. He doesn’t have to receive affirmation from above.
God did this with Moses as well:
Exodus 19:9 NIV84
The Lord said to Moses, “I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear me speaking with you and will always put their trust in you.” Then Moses told the Lord what the people had said.
John 12:31 NIV84
Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.
What is the purpose Jesus saying “Now is the time judgement on this word?”
This is referenced again in:
John 14:30 NIV84
I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me,
John 16:11 NIV84
and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
What does it mean when Jesus said “now the prince of this world will driven out?”
Referenced again in:
John 14:30 NIV84
I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me,
John
Referred as the devil in:
John 8:44 NIV84
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
John 13:2
John 13:2 NIV84
The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus.
Referred as Satan in
John 13:27 NIV84
As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. “What you are about to do, do quickly,” Jesus told him,
Referred as the EVIL ONE in
John 17:15 NIV84
My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
John
1 John 5:19 NIV84
We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.
Through the death of Jesus, the power of the prince of the world has been destroyed.
Hebrews 2:14–15 NIV84
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
Through His death, Jesus dealt with the accuser of our sins once and for all:
Revelation 12:10 NIV84
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.
Revelation
The prince’s power was broken and he was driven out. As a result, we are delivered out of the domain of spiritual darkness and slavery to sin:
Colossians 1:13–14 NIV84
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
By the way, with the prince of this world driven out, the reign of Jesus will be forever:
Psalm 72:17 NIV84
May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. All nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed.
Psalm 89:36 NIV84
that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun;
Psalm
Psalm 110:4 NIV84
The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”
Isaiah 9:7 NIV84
Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
Ezekiel 37:25 NIV84
They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children’s children will live there forever, and David my servant will be their prince forever.
Ezekiel 37
Daniel 7:14 NIV84
He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
John 12:32 NIV84
But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.”
What does Jesus mean when He says “when I am lifted up?”
Lifted up:
Isaiah 11:10 NIV84
In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious.
A banner for all peoples.
Also used in
John 3:14 NIV84
Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,
John 8:28 NIV84
So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am the one I claim to be and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.
Isaiah 52:13 NIV84
See, my servant will act wisely; he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.
The Son of Man was glorified by being crucified.
Haggai 2:7 NIV84
I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty.
“Will draw all men to myself”
In , the Father draws.
John 6:44 NIV84
“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.
Here, it is Christ that draws.
Ever notice how Christ draws all men unto Him?
Hosea 11:4 NIV84
I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love; I lifted the yoke from their neck and bent down to feed them.
Hosea 11:14
Jeremiah 31:3 NIV84
The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.
Cords of lovingkindness.
It is to Christ we are drawn:
The soul that was distant is brought closer to Him
John 13:33
John 13:33 NIV84
“My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.
John 12:33 NIV84
He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.
This reveals and points toward the crucifixion. We will see this fulfilled in
John 18:32 NIV84
This happened so that the words Jesus had spoken indicating the kind of death he was going to die would be fulfilled.
“Kind of death” also points to Jesus’ death being the pathway to His glorification.
The result of this “kind of death” means that Jesus will draw all men to Himself.
It does not mean that all men will be saved, but all men can be saved THROUGH Him. There will be some who choose not to do so. But, all men will recognize that Jesus is Lord:
Philippians 2:9–10 NIV84
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
John 12:34 NIV84
The crowd spoke up, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ will remain forever, so how can you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this ‘Son of Man’?”
Remember the people were familiar with the scripture about “lifted up.” ; ; ; ; ; .
The “Son of Man”
In this context, Jesus did not say “if the Son of Man be lifted up” but rather He said, “When I am lifted up.”
The titles Christ and Son of Man indicate the same person. However, to the people, a suffering/dying Son of Man was not understood.
They asked, “Who is this Son of Man?” In essence they were saying: “What sort of Son of Man are you talking about? Certainly not the one we are looking for!”
John 12:35 NIV84
Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going.
Jesus said He was the light of the world.
John 8:44
John 8:44 NIV84
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
John 8:12 NIV84
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
What did Jesus mean when He said, “You are going to have the light just a little longer?”
Jesus goes on the say, “walk while you have the light.”
Ephesians 5:8 NIV84
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
“…before darkness overtakes you.”
1 John 1:6 NIV84
If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
John
John 12:36 NIV84
Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.
What can we learn from this passage?
With the promise of light, there is deliverance fro the shadows of fear, doubt and uncertainties, and sorrow.
What are you walking in?
