THE RETURN OF ISRAEL TO THEIR OWN LAND: A NEW LIFE

Ezek
Ezekiel 33:10 NASB95
“Now as for you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus you have spoken, saying, “Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we are rotting away in them; how then can we survive?” ’

Ezekiel has emphasized the “desolation” of the land (5:14; 12:20; 23:33; 36:34)

How could this dead nation live again?
God’s Spirit would would reconstruct the dead bones of the nation, and bring them back to life!

Ch. 34 A new shepherd (leadership) Ch. 35 New opportunities in the land Ch. 36 Renewed hope of growth and prosperity

Ch. 35 New opportunities in the land

Ch. 36 Renewed hope of growth and prosperity

How could restoration come? Only through the power of God!
two sticks - divided nations become one to be led by “David My Servant” (v.25)
3 Truths
A tremendous slaughter had occured (full of bones)
No one had cared enough to bury them
God will not tolerate sin - he brings judgment
no hope of restoration (bleached dry from exposure to the sun)
THE POWER OF GOD’S WORD - spoke the world into existence and bring it to an end
Ezek. 3
Ezekiel 37:5 NASB95
“Thus says the Lord God to these bones, ‘Behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life.
ruach = breath (vv. 5, 6, 8, 9, 10), spirit (vv. 1,14), winds (v.9)
breath (vv. 5, 6, 8, 9, 10)

Occurs 378 x’s in the O.T. 52 x’s in Ezekiel

spirit (vv. 1,14)
The spirit in Ezekiel was… a God sent power which energized the prophet, induced visions, and revitalized Israel (see 11:19; 36:26; 39:29)
a God sent power which energized the prophet, induced visions, and revitalized Israel (see 11:19; 36:26; 39:29)
Preaching to dry bones was nothing new to Ezekiel. played in the dirt, built a model, laid on his side for a long time, cut of his hair and chased it around with a sword, and preached to mountain ranges.
Men of God today may be called upon to preach to a “dead” church. Nevertheless, faithful men preach their sermons, believing the power of God’s Word to bring life to those who are dead.
Nation’s View of themselves 1)Our bones are dried up 2) Our hope has perished 3) We are completely cutoff
1)Our bones are dried up
2) Our hope has perished
3) We are completely cutoff
bring = keyword 56 x’s ’s
divine intervention, GOD WOULD BRING THEM BACK
v. 13 “that I am the Lord” - no one else could claim the credit, this was an act of God v.14 His “Spirit” - Human power could not bring life back to the nation
v.14 His “Spirit” - Human power could not bring life back to the nation

THE TWO STICKS: REUNITING THE TWO KINGDOMS UNDER ONE HEAD (37:15-28)

2 sticks (Moses - selecting of high priest, “favor” and “union”)
Hope of Reunion prophesied before
Isaiah 11:16 NASB95
And there will be a highway from Assyria For the remnant of His people who will be left, Just as there was for Israel In the day that they came up out of the land of Egypt.

And the sons of Judah and the sons of Israel will be gathered together, And they will appoint for themselves one leader, And they will go up from the land, For great will be the day of Jezreel.
Rom. 2:28
Romans 2:28 NASB95
For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh.
Romans 2:29 NASB95
But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.
Romans 9:6 NASB95
But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel;
Romans 2:12–16 NASB95
For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law; for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified. For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.
v. 23 “they will be My people and I will be their God” - ultimate fulfillment in the gospel of Christ Heb. Ch. 8; 10 v. 24 “My servant David will be king over them” - messianic title (king and shepherd - political king and spiritual leader)

Thus, He will be a priest on His throne, and the counsel of peace will be between the two offices.” ’
The covenant of peace (see 16:62; 20:37; 34:25) was to be governed by the “prince of peace” () in a kingdom of peace ().

Sabbath
burnt offerings
Aaronic priesthood
earth itself
yet the Bible teaches about the end of all of these (earth in the future )
seems forever to mankind - God and only God can make these things cease
The two sticks and Mormon doctrine - uniting of Bible and Book of Mormon
a stick (Heb. ‘ets)is not a scroll (Heb. sepher) - the bible never interchanges the words
Ezekiel was told what to write on the sticks (Judah and Israel not the Bible and the book of Mormon
Ezekiel is not the author of both the Bible and the Book of Mormon

APPLICATION
1) one who appears spiritually dead can be raised by God
John
John 5:24–27 NASB95
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. “For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself; and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man.
2)With God there is hope, do not underestimate the power of God’s Word
WITH GOD IN THE CEMETERY God can do the impossible God will keep His promises God is the God of eternal hope God wants us to know of His power
God can do the impossible
God will keep His promises
God is the God of eternal hope
God wants us to know of His power
