Introduction
Today we are going to be looking at two different stories in the Bible.
I am going to start in Esther 2. We are going to discuss to some of the important parts that we need to know what is going on in that context.
Then We are going to move to 1 Samuel where we are going to see a story of David and then I am going to tie it all together
Esther 2:19-23
So the virgins are once again gathered.
This was not to declare a queen this was because he was growing his Harem.
The Bible doesn’t tell us why it even has this line in it.
But for me.
From My Perspective it reminds us exactly who this King is.
The primary focus of the passage is that he is a fool.
but We can’t forget that this is a dangerous fool, that we would consider evil in our eyes.
So when it says that He heard the two Eunuchs that were angry it was easy to see that they probably had every right to be angry with this king.
Mordecai is at the gate of the king.
The gate is a common place for meetings and or business.
He could have been at the gates for various reasons, such as business, to exchange or overhear information (if his official role required it) or to be close to Esther without raising suspicion.
But it is my understanding that only the government officials and Judges “Sit at the gate”.
Not just him being lazy he is working.
While he is working he hears these two conspire to Assassinate the king
At this moment Mordecai has a choice.
He can let the king die or not.
We know what he does but He has a choice.
remember this is what we would call a very evil man.
It’s kind of like that question if you had a chance to kill Hitler would you?
Remember this choice as we go to 1 Samuel
1 Samuel 24:1-7
Here we see David the soon to be King of Israel.
Even with all his faults he is seen as the greatest king of Israel.
It is through is line that Jesus comes.
and here we see that David and his men have the opportunity to strike down Saul.
David is going to be king.
Saul is out to kill David.
This is the opportunity to claim what God has ordained.
To step into God’s ordination.
David has a choice.
David knew that this was not God’s will.
To attack Saul, to destroy Saul to take the throne this way.
And he persuades his men not to attack.
Wow what a word for us.
Here we see two stories of men who could of done something about those who were going to try and kill them.
Something about “evil” men.
But they don’t
This requires trust
This requires trust in God.
It requires patience.
It requires obedience.
Not to take things in your own hands to go outside of Gods word to even accomplish Gods purposes
I want that for my life, don’t you?
Don’t take things into your own hands.
Impatiently trying to speed things along, but trust in patients that he will bring his promises along as we trust as we obey him as we rest and trust in him.
In Our Own Hands
But we are Prone to take things in our own hands
Try to work outside of God’s word.
Like Abraham when he had Ishmael.
So we pray.
Pray for Wisdom to act and when not to act.
To be patient and wait upon you and your word.
but not to be to patient not to act when the time comes.
Give us your Guidance t trust along the way.
