Theme: Free to Love
Text:
BIG IDEA.
Subject / Complement: God’s has paid our dept / now we are free, not to live for our passions and desires, but to love Him and serve Him with all of our hearts, time and possessions.
Textual idea (How do you come to this conclusion): This passage shows us the contrast between the attitudes and actions of Simon, the Pharisee, and the sinner woman.
The first one, shows some interest into checking if Jesus was the Messiah but quickly concludes that he was not because his heart was full of self-righteousness and pride.
The woman, on the other hand, most likely already has had an encounter with Jesus, or simply had believe in her heart, already, that Jesus was the savior, therefore she knows that her dept has being forgiven and her belief moves her to give it all to show her love and service out of thankfulness.
Jesus confirms this assumption when sharing a little parable in vs. 42.
Teaching idea (What do you want to teach to the audience): I want to teach the believers that if we know we have been forgiven, our natural reaction should be to love God with all of our hearts, time and possessions as exemplified by the sinner woman.
God is not pleased when there is an attitude of self-righteousness and pride that only take us away from His grace.
I want to teach the none believer that God has paid for their sins not matter the size or the amount, he wants to make them free to Love Him.
My burden: For people to remember how much it has been forgiven to us and so be moved to love Jesus with crazy, bold, unashamed love.
Main question to be answered: Am I loving God with crazy love?
Main transitional statement: Think about how much has forgiven you and then think about how much are you loving him back.
