7 There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”
8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
9 Therefore the Samaritan woman said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
John

I went into Academy Sports. Guy with a helmet. My first concern was that he was about to rob the store and I was going to have to kill someone.
He walks out and gets on
When I saw he was with his family, I really wanted to make fun of him (in my head) but thought he may have some condition and have to wear a helmet and chose a full face because he loves motorcycles.
We walked out about the same time and he walked up to what looked like a sport bike, but was a single cylinder.
Then I wanted to look down my nose at him.
Do you wave to scooters? Can-Am?
Polaris Slingshot......I don’t even wave at them.
Samaritans A sect from the northern kingdom. They intermarried with other cultures. They worshiped the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but only had the first five books of the OT.
They were treated like Gentiles, which means that a Jew could defile themselves if the touch them and would not associate with them.
Woman- A male dominated culture and the last person a Jew would associate with would have been a Samaritan woman.
Nicodemus to Samaritan Woman.
Young, Religious, Jew, Aristocrat. to this woman.
Share Christ’s love with everyone.
Share Christ’s love with everyone.
If we want to follow Christ’s example, we have no grounds for looking down our nose at anyone.
He told the truth to the top and bottom of society and so should we.
The Woman Normally the women would got to draw water together, but not this woman. We are not told why, but we will learn she has probably been rejected by her own people because of her sin.
Ironically she finds herself in the company of Jesus, who will be rejected by his own people because of his truth.
10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;
John 4:
John 4:13-
Living Water- flowing water, spring or river. also something spiritual and everflowing.
Je
13 “For My people have committed two evils:
They have forsaken Me,
The fountain of living waters,
To hew for themselves cisterns,
Broken cisterns
That can hold no water.
She is just thinking of the natural - like nicodemus
11 She said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; where then do You get that living water?
12 “You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?”
John 4:11-
Jesus answer:
13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
John 4:13-
You have a faucet with running water. The only reason you would store up water is if you believe the source of the water will stop.

Earthquake prep.
Manna was provided daily in the desert.
Deny our selves daily.
We ask for our daily bread.
It is a reliance on God daily knowing and trusting that His provision for us will have no end.
Jesus is promising her indoor plumbing.
But she is still in the natural world.
15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw.”
16 He said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.”
17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’;
18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.”
19 The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.
John
Jesus knew her sin and still spoke to her.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Jesus allowed her to recognize her own sin.
Paul - Galatians: The law is our tutor.
James compares the law as a mirror.
Hate the sin, love the sinner.
I don’t like that phrase.
Theologically speaking, the only way God could accomplish that is for his Son to die.
And we aren’t God.
Either we lean more toward hatting the person.
Or we lean more toward loving the sin.
If you want to hate anyone’s sin. Hate your own.
Not the sins before you were saved, they are forgiven.
Not your sins since you were saved… Grace.
Hat the sins you are going to commit. Hate them with a passion. Hate them so much that you turn away from them before your commit them.
The woman changes the conversation
20 “Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”
Mt. Gerizim - Abraham built an alter.
21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
22 “You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
23 “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.”
John 4:21-
John 4:21-
Spirit: Worship becomes everything that we do and are.
Truth: Jesus, The real Jesus of the Bible, not the Jesus that we make up in our head.
25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.”
26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”
John 4:
The disciples come back and the woman leaves.
28 So the woman left her waterpot, and went into the city and said to the men,
29 “Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?”
30 They went out of the city, and were coming to Him.
John 4:28-
Left her waterpot. Symbol that she believed - She tapped into the living water.
Brand new in the faith and she starts telling people.
Tell people about Jesus
Tell people about Jesus
She didn’t have all the answers, she didn’t know systematic theology. She couldn’t quote scripture. But she met the Savior and she told people about it.
Vs. 39 said that many samaritans believed. Many more believe because of His word.
31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”
32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”
33 So the disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?”
34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.
John 4:31
My Food is to do the will of Him who sent me and accomplish His work.
Peter () called the Word pure milk.
Paul in Corinthians talk about our spiritual food
The writer of Hebrews draws a distinction between the milk of the Word and solid food.
Jesus is saying His food is doing the will of the Father.
James says to be doers of the Word
Put Feet to your Faith
Put Feet to your Faith
You cannot know the will of God without both the Word and prayer. But once you know it. Do it.
Had a correspondence with a guy that needing a “spiritual revival”. My advise to him was to get out and do.
