Introduction
Joke
Farmers Fred and Freddie were fishing on the side of the road.
They made a sign saying "The End is Near!
Turn yourself around now before it's too late!," and showed it to each passing car.
One driver that passed didn't appreciate the sign and shouted, "Leave us alone you religious nuts!"
All of a sudden they heard a big splash.
Fred grinned at Luke. "Do you think we should just put up a sign that says: 'Bridge Out' instead?"
____________________________________
is a psalm of prophecy.
There are two well beaten paths that mankind has taken in life from the beginning.
(Seth’s Descendants, Cain’s Descendants.)
Both of these paths lead to the same end.
There are those who say that all paths lead to the same place.
Without understanding what they are saying…they are right.
There will be a day when Jesus Returns to judge every one according their response of faith toward God.
On that day, everyone will give praise to God.
Everyone will bow before the Lord, acknowledging Him as Sovereign King.
Some will praise God with great joy.
Some will praise God out of anguish, torment, sorrow, and pain.
David is the first to prophesy about this day:
Solomon also prophesies about this day:
Isaiah also sees a day when all flesh will praise the Lord:
Paul also confirms that no one will escape the praise of God:
Ecclesiastes 14 12-14
There are two well beaten paths that will lead to the same place.
All people everywhere will either:
Praise God with joy
Praise God through the sorrow of judgement.
10 DISCIPLINES TO THE WELL-BEATEN PATH OF JOY
Praise God now.
Don’t wait.
psalm 145
Develop the discipline of praise.
Begin every day praising God.
Remind yourself at the beginning of the day that
God is King.
His greatness is unmatched.
His glory is unsearchable.
His might is beyond any other power.
His Name is above any other.
Don’t live your life ignoring God’s greatness.
There will be a day when you will no longer be able to ignore it.
On that day, however, you will acknowledge it in sorrow rather than joy.
Seek out older Christians and choose to be around them.
psalm 145
develop the discipline of learning from older Christians.
One of the easiest ways to accomplish this is to go to church.
Desire to be around older people who will continuously remind you of the awesome works of the Lord.
On path you can choose will put you within ear shot of others declaring the mighty works of God.
The other path you can choose will be absent of that kind of conversation.
Meditate on the Greatness of God.
develop the discipline of meditation.
begin your day praising God, and continue your day thinking about the glory of God.
Fall in love with the majesty and glory of King Jesus.
Think about the great things He has done.
Think about the works of the Lord until you are in awe of Him.
Let God’s Glory be on Your Lips.
psalm 145
Develop the discipline of evangelism.
Pass on what you have learned.
Wherever you go in life, you leave a wake behind you.
Make sure you live in such a way that the people in your past are:
praising God because of you.
praising God because they met you.
praising God because they heard about Him through you.
On THE DAY, everyone will know that God’s servant was among them…live in such a way that on THE DAY they are thanking God for you, rather than resenting your poor testimony.
Put Your Hope in the Lord, Not Your Career.
psalm 145
Develop the discipline of dependance on the Lord.
(story about envelope in the VW window)
(story about check at Mid-America)
(Story about Derek Hunter)
God knows who are His and He faithfully provides for them.
If you live a lifestyle of praise now, you will have stories like these as well.
Let God determine if you will be rich or poor, but either way learn to depend on Him for provision.
Don’t Play Games with God.
He knows your heart.
psalm 145
Develop the discipline of integrity.
One of the temptations that everyone faces is “living one way on Sunday and another way Monday through Saturday.”
Understand that the Lord knows our hearts.
He is near those who call out to him with integrity.
Look at this promise: He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; He hears their cry for help and saves them.
But He destroys all the wicked.
Have Two Dates on Your Calendar, Today and THE DAY.
Psalm 145
Develop the discipline of good planning.
The prophesy of this Psalm is clear.
There is a path you can take that praises God today, knowing that ultimately all flesh will praise the Lord forever.
There is also a path you can take that rejects God today.
Ultimately the person that takes this path will be forced to praise God from the torment of the flames of Hell.
