Introduction

Greetings...
Last week we began our new series of lessons on “God’s Word In ” and the first lesson was on “Blessings From God’s Word.”
We examined how those that walk blamelessly before God, through His Word, are blessed.
We also notice that the blessed are those that teach the holy commandments to others.
This week we are going to examine, from , “Dedication To God’s Word.”
With this in mind let us examine our lesson today.

Dedication To God’s Word

God’s Word is wondrous.

The Word of God is the most wondrous and wonderful document every written down for man.
It’s perfection, strength, and love cannot be surpassed.
The psalmist doesn’t miss this point concerning God’s Word.
Ps 119:
Psalm 119:18 ESV
18 Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
Psalm 119:27 ESV
27 Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wondrous works.
Psalm 119:96 ESV
96 I have seen a limit to all perfection, but your commandment is exceedingly broad.
Ps
Because the Bible is so amazing and awe-inspiring...
Therefore...

God’s Word deserves dedication.

Many think dedication to God’s Word is reading the Bible here or there or maybe even everyday to some degree and then putting it down to not think about it again until “at most” the next day.
Some even think that “as long as they attend some services” they are dedicated to God’s Word which couldn’t be further from the truth.
This couldn’t be further from the truth.
Dedication takes being consumed with God’s Word.
Psalm 119:20 ESV
20 My soul is consumed with longing for your rules at all times.
Job 23:12 ESV
12 I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.
Job
Psalm 63:1 ESV
1 O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Dedication takes being delighted in God’s Word.
Psalm 119:24 ESV
24 Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors.
Rom
Romans 7:22 ESV
22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being,
Psalm 119:174 ESV
174 I long for your salvation, O Lord, and your law is my delight.
Dedication takes choosing faithfulness to God’s Word.
Ps 119:
Psalm 119:30 ESV
30 I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I set your rules before me.
Josh 24:22-
Joshua 24:22–24 ESV
22 Then Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the Lord, to serve him.” And they said, “We are witnesses.” 23 He said, “Then put away the foreign gods that are among you, and incline your heart to the Lord, the God of Israel.” 24 And the people said to Joshua, “The Lord our God we will serve, and his voice we will obey.”
Dedication takes clinging to God and His Word.
Psalm 119:31 ESV
31 I cling to your testimonies, O Lord; let me not be put to shame!
2 Kings 18:6 NASB
6 For he clung to the Lord; he did not depart from following Him, but kept His commandments, which the Lord had commanded Moses.

Summary

Dedication to God’s Word takes being consumed and delighted by the Holy Writ and it takes choosing faithfulness to God through His Word by clinging to it with everything you have.

God’s Word Demands Shunning Sin

Dedication to God demands removing sin.

As we mentioned earlier, it’s not enough to “think we are dedicated” we must be dedicated to God’s Word biblically speaking.
When we do this there is an over message that cannot be denied…STOP SINNING.
Sin separates us from God () and God has sent His only begotten Son to bridge the gap of sin between us and God ().
All God asks in return is for us to strive for perfection in our walk with Him.
Matthew 5:48 ESV
48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
1 Peter 1:15–16 ESV
15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
This doesn’t mean we will be perfect, in fact we won’t (, ) but it does mean that through the blood of Christ and our walking with God we can be perfect before God ().
This only happens when we “strive for perfection” through the blood of Christ by keeping sin from us.

Removing sin requires discipline.

There has never been a person alive that did not require discipline to remove sin or keep sin from their lives.
Discipline comes in two forms.
There is discipline that deals with correction of wrong.
There is discipline that deals with self motivation.
Removing sin from our lives takes a good look in the mirror and a willingness to take discipline.
It takes wanting correction from God and the godly.
Psalm 119:17 ESV
17 Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word.
Ps 119:
Psalm 119:28–29 ESV
28 My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word! 29 Put false ways far from me and graciously teach me your law!
Galatians 6:1–2 ESV
1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
It takes godly sorrow concerning sin and a willingness to get help to “put false ways from us.”
Psalm 119:28–29 ESV
28 My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word! 29 Put false ways far from me and graciously teach me your law!

Summary

Being dedicated to God and His Word means putting God first in everything which means we are going to seek perfection through the blood of Christ and God’s Word.

Conclusion

Kay Arthur once stated...
If you do not plan to live the Christian life totally committed to knowing God and to walking in obedience to Him, then don’t begin, for this is what Christianity is all about. It is a change of citizenship, a change of government, a change of allegiance. If you have no intention of letting Christ rule your life, then forget Christianity; it is not for you.
On the other hand, if you want the best life this life and the life to come has to offer be dedicated to God and His Word.
That life is worth far more than gold or silver, family or friends, or anything else this earth has to offer.
Invitation
Isaiah 59:1–2 ESV
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Philippians 2:6–7 ESV
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Romans 10:17 ESV
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Hebrews 11:6 ESV
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Acts 17:30 ESV
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
Matthew 10:32 NKJV
32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
2 Thessalonians 1:8 ESV
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 ESV
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
Romans 6:3–5 ESV
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
1 John 1:7 ESV
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
