The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear. The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
2  When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh,
They stumbled and fell.
3  Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear:
Though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
4  One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after;
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.
5  For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion:
In the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me;
He shall set me up upon a rock.
6  And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me:
Therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy;
I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD. ( ).
I have discoverd that there is a disconnect from the praiser and the one that is to be praised. In this year of Celebration the Moderator has chosen the the scripture . This doxology that closes the book of Psalm is a great ending to a book that both conveys intimate thoughts, challenging commands, metaphoric prophecies and so much more.
Yes I am with the year of CELEBRATION!
Kool and the Gang said
).
Celebrate good times, come on Let's celebrate Celebrate good times, come on There's a party goin' on right here
A celebration to last Throughout the years So bring your good times And your laughter too
We gonna celebrate your Party with you Come on now, Celebration Let's all celebrate
And have a good time Celebration We gonna celebrate And have a good time
It's time to come together It's up to you, what's your pleasure Everyone around the world Come on!
When that song came out in 1980. It was the feel good song of the year as well the 80s! The 80’s were feel good years!
Many time we connect to songs because of the feeling they evoke or the feeling we are in. When folks are facing struggles and challenges its hard for them celebrate.
Even today if the truth be told there are some in this room that are having a hard time celebrating for one reason or another. Lost of a loved one, trouble in your homes, or even on your jobs. Facing periods of uncertainty!
So the when someone say Praise ye the Lord! it is harder for some than others. This why you need a before you get to a . Because in we find another reason, a personal reason and reason that all of us can connect to to Give God Praise!
David writes this psalm likely after the rebellion and fall of Absalom. After obtaining success it felt it befitting to express his gratitude to the Lord. A time to express thanksgiving! Has the Lord ever brought you through something? If he did was that the moment you needed to reflect and express your gratitude. Ok maybe its just me. It was after the storm, after the fight, after going through the valley of the shadow of death that when I got to the other side. I said nob body but Jesus. Yes I praised Him while going through, that’s what got me through but it was something to see sweet relief!
Yall not hearing me! it was when you heard the cancer is gone that you shouted the greatest! It was when you came off that bed of affliction you cried out Hallelujah! Its when you got the new job after being unemployed for a yeah you ran around the church!
Yes there is a response when The Lord intervenes on your behalf. David had cause the give God praise. He uses this Coposite Psalm to reflect his Joy and jubilation, his sadness, his need for mercy and forgivenss, He talks about his desertion, his imminent danger yet he still expresses hope and his determination to wait on God!
See in life you will experience a full composition of situations. Everyday will not be howdy howdy but we also know trouble don’t last always!
I can testify before this group that during this 6 years of serving as Congress President I have had some major highs and some incredible lows.
I had to maintain my composure when I saw people working against me. When my enemies and my foes..... came upon me to eat up my flesh.. They did what stumbled and fell!
I was angry and disappointed at times. My feeling were hurt along the way. Yet the Lord kept reminding me to maintain your integrity! Keep working Don’t get weary in well doing.. For in due season you shall reap! I’ve been reminded with God we get 5 seasons. The fifth one is DUE SEASON! Say in due season… remember if you faint not! When you keep your integrity God will elevate your work so others can see.
I don’t mind saying it as I take my bow I leave the next Congress President the most structured, the most organized, the most gifted Congress Staff anyone can hope for. The model we have set up in this 6 years is being looked at across the state and on the national level. Just to think had folks conspiring against me to even take the office.
Now if Salem didn’t see the value that’s on Salem. if you did not partake in it that’s on you! It does not mean that the best instructors, the best dean staff were not here. We still had the freshest ideas and the newest approach of how to do Christian Education effectively.
Yes the Lord is my light and my salvation. He showed me what to do and how to do it!
Yes the first 6 verses of ths great Psalm considered the strope speaks to why i have another reason to praise the Lord!
First he kept my enemies at bay.
When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, They stumbled and fell.
They stumbled and fell.
Secondly he kept me focused
One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after;
Secondly he get me focused One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after;
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.
Thirdly he hid me in the time of trouble
Thirdly he hid me in the time of trouble
Thirdly he hid me in the time of trouble
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion:
In the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me;
Fourthly he lifted me up
He shall set me up upon a rock.
6  And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me:
They stumbled and fell.
They stumbled and fell.
Fourthly he lifted me up
I am closing now!

6  And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me:
Therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy;
I am closing now!
I am closing now!

He shall set me up upon a rock.

6  And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me:

I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD. Yes therefore (Fir this reason) Thank you Dr. James for teaching how to interpret the Bible because one of the key words that should get your attention is Therefore. We know we need to look up to see what is there for. For this reason I give him praise!
Yes I will offer that means freely give! Sacrifices of Joy that means my praise should cost me something,
The Holy Bible: King James Version. (2009). (Electronic Edition of the 1900 Authorized Version., ). Bellingham, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc.
I will sing! Like the Pslamist said in Psalm 100
Make a joyful noise unto the all ye lands Serve the LORD with gladness:
Come before his presence with singing.
3  Know ye that the LORD he is God:
It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
And into his courts with praise:
Be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting;
And his truth endureth to all generations.
I leave you with how Im feeling this thing?
I ask can I leave you with how I feeling this thing? The message Bible says it this way
27 Light, space, zest—
that’s GOD!
So, with him on my side I’m fearless,
afraid of no one and nothing.
2  When vandal hordes ride down
ready to eat me alive,
Those bullies and toughs
fall flat on their faces.
3  When besieged,
I’m calm as a baby.
When all hell breaks loose,
I’m collected and cool.
4  I’m asking GOD for one thing,
only one thing:
To live with him in his house
my whole life long.
I’ll contemplate his beauty;
I’ll study at his feet.
5  That’s the only quiet, secure place
in a noisy world,
The perfect getaway,
far from the buzz of traffic.
6  God holds me head and shoulders
above all who try to pull me down.
I’m headed for his place to offer anthems
that will raise the roof!
Already I’m singing God-songs;
I’m making music to GOD.
Peterson, E. H. (2005). The Message: the Bible in contemporary language (). Colorado Springs, CO: NavPress.
I have reason to praise Him. He has been good to me. He has been my best friend, my constant companion, my source of strength, my very presence help in the time of trouble, my rock in a weary land,
I will give you one more reason to praise him. He came down 42 generations, to live a sinless life to be the sacrificial lamb of God. He opened binded eyes and cause the deaf to hear and the dumb to talk. He cause the lame to walk and healed all manner of disease. The account of like will inform you he was marched up Golgotha hill, a hill called Calvary where they would put nails in his hands and spikes in his feet, a crown of thorns on his brow and he would surely die.
Yet thank God he died for when he died he became the propitiation for our sins!
And thank God that he did not stay dead for the account will show he was place in a borrowed tomb and stayed there all night friday all day Saturday and all night Saturday Night. But someone between before the Sun woke the the Son woke up. God raise his Son from the dead. Let me say so you will understand Early, Say early early early He got up with all power!
Yes it time to give him him praise its time to celebrate!

1  Praise ye the LORD.

Praise God in his sanctuary:

Praise him in the firmament of his power.

2  Praise him for his dmighty acts:

Praise him according to his excellent greatness.

3  Praise him with the sound of the trumpet:

Praise him with the psaltery and harp.

4  Praise him with the timbrel and dance:

Praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

5  Praise him upon the loud cymbals:

Praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

6  Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD.

Praise ye the LORD.
