Worship and Vows & 12 Nov 17
We are exhorted in Scripture to go into the house of the Lord joyfully (). We go because we are hungry to worship the living God (). But we are not dropping by the coffee shop to have a chat with a friend. Worship is to hear and see the King of Kings.
I. Worship Is To Hear God’s Word –
A. “Hear O Israel” –
1. The Lord our God is One –
2. You shall love the Lord your God –
B. To hear God’s voice is to commit ourselves to act
1. To witness for Christ –
2. To volunteer for His service –
II. Vows Are A Part of Worship –
A. Our heritage comes through vows –
1. Vows of marriage –
2. Emotion and affection do not make a marriage but vows do
B. Our vows are a response to God’s covenant promises to us
1. Our children – God says the promise is to you and your children –
2. By faith we as parents vow to raise our children based on God’s promise
C. Confessing Christ is a vow –
1. Such confession is to be public –
2. Our faith is not only personal but covenantal as our God gives us brothers and sisters
Thankfulness is foundational to keeping your vows –
III. Fear God –
A. Continually have an attitude
1. Of submission to the Lord
2. To confess sin –
3. To hate evil –
4. To forsake evil –
B. Continually depends upon God to provide through Jesus Christ
1. Confidence –
2. A fountain of life –
C. Every word is a vow –
1. Our words condemn or justify us –
2. Our words are to be spoken by faith not by presumption –
3. The fear of God is relational and so are our vows
Because God has made covenant promises to us, we are able to vow with confidence. God guides our life through our vows.
