2 Timothy 4:1–8 HCSB
1 I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and because of His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenient or not; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new. 4 They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths. 5 But as for you, be serious about everything, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time for my departure is close. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 There is reserved for me in the future the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me, but to all those who have loved His appearing.
(HCSB)
I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and because of His appearing and His kingdom:
2Proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenient or not; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching.
3For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new.
4They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths.
5But as for you, be serious about everything, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
6For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time for my departure is close.
7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
8There is reserved for me in the future the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me, but to all those who have loved His appearing.
Paul is wrapping up the letter to Timothy with a charge, There is a simple world with a simple meaning,
Charge: = demand (an amount) as a price from someone for a service rendered or goods supplied.
Here the word translates similarly but speaks to the context outlined meaning ====
===To call God and men to witness.

Four things to Understand:

1. Understand the message: and Proclaim and PERSIST in it

To Persist is to stand in it until it’s done. Per constant at it.

A. To the Lost

2Proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenient or not;

B. To the ones who are in the Discipleship process.

B. To the ones who are in the Discipleship process.

2 Proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenient or not; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching.
Work with the ones behind you and build them in the Lord
With Great patience and Teaching...Frustration and quitting is not an option for you. Great patience is required which in my experience means that there will be a tiring effect of getting worn out just doing the mundane I don’t want to do it labor that will ultimately yield results.

C. Regardless of how you are feeling today. Convenient or not:

PERSIST

2. Understand Urgency.

I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and because of His appearing and His kingdom:

A. Because Judgement is a thing:

i. There is a clear understanding that God is imminent and will judge gathering living and the dead.

3For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new.

B. And distraction is a thing:

i. That line, “desire for something new“ catches my interest.

It is talking about people who are in it because it’s a curiosity to them. People who come along and engage the new thing that Timothy is now doing and are excited about it for a little while. They might even go all out for time but eventually they do not stick around because I get tired of hearing the same old thing. They are not letting the simple message of the gospel grind down on them and work on their character development. They have a hard surface they are people looking for entertainment/curiosity/excitement. These are the kind of people that lose sight of things after a while and go looking for something new and more entertaining.
They are like the shallow end of the pool. There’s water there and it looks just like the surface of the whole pool. But don’t dive into the shallow end because there’s not much below the surface and you might get hurt.

3. Understand Difficulty

5 But as for you, be serious about everything, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Serous here does not mean a dull life but understanding the reality of life and living it intentionally. Not missing the importance of a moment.
Endure: it will not always feel good or be something worth it.
Do what must be done….DO THE WORK OF…it’s not that Timothy is an evangelist. But regardless he is to be mindful of evangelistic needs. And do that work.

4. Understand what endures

A. Live for the rewards that matter. Paul saw a greater crown. And lived for it.

its echoed here.
Hebrews 13:14 HCSB
14 For we do not have an enduring city here; instead, we seek the one to come.
14. we do not have an enduring city, instead, we seek the one to come.
15. Therefore, let us continue to offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips, but confesses his name.
16. Don’t neglect to do What is good and to share, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.”
