Memorial Day 2019
Today we remember those who have given their lives in service to this country, we remember those who have died.
We also remember those in our own community, family members and close friends who have lost their lives.
Days like today exist because life is precious, because those who are no longer with us are precious, and they deserve to be remembered, and more than that, we don’t want to forget them, we don’t want them to be forgotten.
Life is precious, yet in this fallen world, death reigns, and none of us are able to escape it.
The Holy Scriptures teach us that because of sin death spread to all men because all men sinned.
Death is a result of our rebellion against God and our breaking of his law.
Yet God has not left us in our sin, he has not given death the last word, instead he sent his Son into the world to take upon himself the penalty of our sin.
He came to die on behalf of those who turn away from their sin and trust in him alone for their salvation.
This Jesus has defeated death and overcome the grave, so that we might as well.
May we feel the gravity and seriousness of death today and turn to the God’s Son, Jesus our Lord.
