I’m going to tell the kids about a famous athlete who has played on some winning teams like the Cleveland Cavs and the Miami Heat. And now he plays for the L.A Lakers. Mega do you want to stick around and hear the story?
Who loves Basketball? Clap twice if you love basketball
One of the fundamentals of basketball is shooting free throws. That’s wshat today’s sports story is about. Raise your hand if you think you know who this story is about.
Who’s heard of Lebron James? He is one of the most famous basketball players there is. He’s won N.B.A championships, Olympic gold medals. But even when your as good as Lebron James you still need to set goals. A couple of years ago, Lebron set a goal of making 80 % of his free throws. Meaning he needed to make 8-10 free throws he shoots.
A. MEGA MINUTE CHALLENGE
Greg and Christian free throw challenge
1. We are going to set a timer for 1 min. and they are going to get 10 shots, they’re goal is to see if they can hit Lebron’s goal of 80%.
Alright guys do you think they can do it? CHEER THEM ON!
Do you think Lebron has reached his goal of making 80% of his free throws? No he hasn’t he is still trying to meet the goal he has set. What is our Mega point? I WILL SET MY GOAL
BIBLE STORY
BIBLE STORY
Each night at this camp we will hear a story from the bible. The bible is a awesome book, because everything in it is inspired by God. The bible tells us how God created the world, including the sun, moon, animals, people-everything.
The bible is divided into 2 parts. The first part of the bible is called the O.T. and that’s where today’s bible story is from.
We’re going to meet someone named Nehemiah. We’ll find out how Nehemiah lived out our Mega Point.
Nehemiah was Jewish man from Isreal, but he lived far from his home in Isreal. His family had been captured and forced to move to another country. How many of you have ever had to move to a different town?
It’s not easy to move and to make new friends and get used to new places. And it was difficult for Nehemiah’s family too. But just like you can choose to enjoy you’re new home when you move, Nehemiah’s choose to be happy in their new home.
Nehemiah even ended up with a very important job. He worked for the king. His job was to be the king’s cupbearer.
Being the was dangerous because sometimes people wanted to kill him. They might put poison in his food or drink. Guess what Nehemiah had to do as the king’s cupbearer?
Nehemiah has to test the king’s drinks to make sure they were safe.
One day Nehemiah’s brother came to visit. His brother lived in Jerusalem, which was the most important city for Nehemiah and the Isrealites
And back in the bible times cities like Jerusalem had high walls around them to keep the enemies out. But Nehemiah’s brother said Jerusalem’s wall was torn down and its gates has been burned.
When Nehemiah heard about the wall of Jerusalem, he was heartbroken. He was so heartbroken that he cried and he fasted. That means he didn’t eat. And he prayed to God because he knew the people in Jerusalem needed help to rebuild the wall.
God had a plan for Nehemiah . He wanted Nehemiah to rebuild the wall.
Do you think Nehemiah knew how to build a wall?(group response) No, he didn’t. Was Nehemiah just free to leave and go to Jerusalem?( response) No, he wasn’t . He worked for the king. But that didn’t stop Nehemiah from setting his goal.
It is so important that we set goals for our lives. And maybe tonight you can set a goal for yourself, maybe it’s to be a better brother or sister, son or daughter. Maybe to be nicer to people, to be a better student. And we can ask God to help us with these goals.
And you know the cool thing about it is, just as God had a plan for Nehemiah, He has a plan for you too! And his plan for you began when He sent His one and only son Jesus. And the bible says that if we believe in him, and trust in him, and ask him to forgive us of all the wrong things we have done. That means we are asking Jesus to come and live in our hearts. And when we have Jesus living in our hearts we have joy, and He is always with us and we will never be alone.
