ASMODEUS (אַשׁמְדַי, ashmday; Ἀσμοδαι̂ος, Asmodaios). A demon responsible for killing seven husbands of Sarah, daughter of Raguel. The demon killed the men on their wedding night before the marriage could be consummated (). Tobias, son of Tobit, eventually marries Sarah and succeeds in driving away Asmodeus using the smell of burning fish heart and liver (; ). The angel Raphael then captures and binds the demon ().
