Chapter 1

The Beginning of Knowledge

What does this say about God?
God has given us instruction so that we can know:
wisdom
righteousness
justice
equity
prudence
knowledge
discretion
Knowledge comes from fearing the Lord

The Enticement of Sinners

What does this say about God?
Do not be drawn into evil by sinners
Greed for unjust gain = death (not life)

The Call of Wisdom

What does this say about God?
Wisdom is not hidden (cries aloud in the street; in the market)
Fools hate knowledge
God pours out his spirit and reveals knowledge to those who repent
To ignore wisdom = calamity, terror, distress, anguish
Those who do not fear the Lord and despise reproof will eat the fruit of their way
Those who listen will dwell in security, be at ease and will not dread disaster

Chapter 29

What does this say about God?
If we repeatedly stiffen our neck against reproof- it is possible to be broken beyond healing
God is just and interested in justice
An evil man is ensnared in his transgression, but a righteous man sings and rejoices
God gives joy and peace to the righteous
The righteous are concerned with the needs of the poor
God is concerned with the needs of the poor
A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back
God wants his people to walk in wisdom
It is the Lord that gives light to the eyes
of both the poor man and the oppressor
God blesses kings who faithfully judge the poor
Reproof and correction give wisdom
Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint
God blesses those who keep the law
Do not be hasty in your words; this is foolish
A man of wrath stirs up strife, and anger causes much transgression
God will honor those who are lowly in spirit
God will keep safe those who trust in him
When we fear men instead of God- it is a snare
Many seek the face of a ruler, but it is from the Lord that a man gets justice
The one whose way is straight- is an abomination to the wicked
