Trusting in Anything Else Other Than Christ

Church of Corinth - broken, messy church
began to take their eyes off the prize
Sought comfort in who their teachers were
Forgot that they were broken vessels pointing to the one whom they needed
Paul corrects this thinking
1 Corinthians 3:4–11 ESV
4 For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human? 5 What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8 He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. 9 For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. 11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:4-

God gives the growth

1 Corinthians 3:6–7 ESV
I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.
1 Corinthians 3:
Remember that all is for the glory of God
It is Him that we should adore and follow
not people, why?
Romans 3:10 ESV
as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one;

Laying hope in broken vessels is broken hope
Matthew 7:24–27 ESV
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Christ is the one we seek to follow
