Introduction

Base Text

9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

The Unrighteous

The Unrighteous

Idolators
— No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other.
Many in the gay Christian movement would have you serve two masters
You cannot serve Christ and a crooked orientation nor can you love God and a queer identity
— “I am the LORD, that is My name; I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to graven images.”
The Lord is a consuming fire and a jealous God.
He has made mankind in His image to glorify and honor him
Glorying in your own contrived identity, whether straight or queer, is a vain attempt to grasp for God’s glory, calling Him a liar in what He has already said is true about you.
The Covetous
— You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel.
The covetous man is dissatisfied with his portion and with murderous intention seeks the portion rightfully belonging to others.
The envious man cannot obtain that which God has not given him and so he spreads every manner of dissension.
— The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor is the ear filled with hearing.
The covetous and greedy man never has his fill
The more you entertain lust and engage in immorality the more you must strive to obtain in a futile attempt to be filled.
Rivelers
— But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother “You good-for-nothing,” shall be guilty before the supreme court ; and whoever says “You fool,” shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.
This verse comes right after where Jesus is showing the intent fo the heart for murder.
— He who conceals hatred has lying lips, and he who spreads slander is a fool.
Anger and harmful verbal abuse are shown to be murderous intent of the heart
— With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.
The same is true of this verse: the true murderous intent of the reviler is to destroy his neighbor and rend him to naught through the violence of his tongue

Do Not Be Deceived

Those who are deceived are not innocent in their deception
— They have healed the wound of My people lightly saying, “Peace, peace,” when there is no peace.
There are those in the
— For a time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate teachers for themselves in accordance with their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.
— Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows , this he will also reap.
Here again Paul says not to be deceived. None of us should expect not to reap the whirlwind when we sow the wind.
God has issued His righteous decrees and we should not think we can escape His chastisement if we pridefully flaunt His commandment and not reap His divine justice.

Such Were Some of You

Washed
— Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say unto you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
The only way that the unrighteous can even see, let alone enter or inherit, the Kingdom of God is to be born all over again
— He saved us, not on the bases of deeds we have done in righteous, but by according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.
God accomplishes the new birth in ruined sinners through the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit
God washes us and cleanses us from all unrighteousness by His Holy Spirit he regenerates us and makes us new creations in Christ.
If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation, the old is gone and the new has come.
Sanctified
— For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
God chooses and sets apart those whom He has washed to be His own possession.
— But know that the Lord has set apart the godly man for Himself
For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
New American Standard Bible: 1995 update. (1995). (). La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation.
God doesn’t look for the godly to set apart, rather it is by the washing of rebirth that He makes the ungodly godly for Himself.
Since we
Justified
— Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
Justification is this: that though we were formerly God’s enemies He has made peace with us through the Lord Jesus Christ.
This justification is a free gift obtained by putting our full confidence in the finished work of Christ.
— He [is] both the just and and justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
God has poured out His wrath on Jesus Christ who lived the life we should have lived and died the death we should have died.
God must judge sin because He is just, but Christ was put forth that sin my be judged in His body that we might escape the wrath to come through faith in His substitutionary work.

Call

Jesus went throughout Galilee preaching the good news of the Gospel of God saying, “The time is fulfilled, the Kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe the Gospel.”
“The time is fulfilled” means THE TIME IS NOW. The day is today.
“the Kingdom of God is at hand” means that the Kingdom of God is so close you can reach out and touch it. It means the Kingdom of God is RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW.
“Repent” means to TURN, to have and inward change of mind in your heart. You are going one direction toward Hell and the pit of destruction and you turn 180 degrees and go in the other direction toward Christ. You are running full speed away from God and you TURN and run toward God.
“Believe the Gospel” means to believe and PUT FULL CONFIDENCE in Jesus Christ, that He is exactly who He said He is, and that He accomplished exactly what He said He accomplished.
