Hebrews 11:1–3 AV 1873
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Hebrews 11:6 AV 1873
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Hebrews 11:1-
Romans 1:17 AV 1873

Faith Defined

Hebrews 11:1–2 AV 1873
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Hebrews 11:6 AV 1873
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
A. Faith is:
Faith here is a noun.
Faith that is in action is required, however, to be a verb. It is in fact something we do, not an object of our affection.
B. Substance/ Reality.
Substance is tangible reality. To believe so strongly you can touch it.
Hoped For: Earnest expectation
C. Evidence/ Proof.
Evidence: Like a crime needs evidence so also does our faith. Believing is the evidence and doing is the action.
Things not seen: Same as what was hoped for.
D. Obtained
Elders/ ancestors.
Good report—God’s approval.
Romans 4
Romans 4:1–3 AV 1873
1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? 2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Faith Deciphered

Hebrews 11:3 AV 1873
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
A. Understanding isa matter of faith
B. Example of that code breaking.
The Word of God made the world.
From nothing.
At base level, this really may not make much sense, but this is where faith in the information is key.

Faith Depicted

Hebrews 11:4 AV 1873
4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
A. Abel is the first example of faith.
Hebrews 11:5–6 AV 1873
5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
B. Enoch
