He was a child that was prayed for.
His mother was barren, yet she prayed continually that the Lord would give her a child.
He heard her prayers and gave her Samuel, which she dedicated him to the Lord.
After he was winged from his mother, he lived in the temple to serve the Lord how ever he was needed.
The Lord took Samuel and made him the last Judge of Israel and the first Prophet for Israel.

So often we in the church are in the same boat.
Today we will see 3 Types of People from our scriptures today.
First, are those that are not the Lord’s.
1 Samuel 3:
We see many in our church that falls in this area.
Either they have not accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, or it is a new Christian that does not understand completely and still growing.
This group can be a major danger in the church, because they can hinder the church from moving forward with thinking they know what is best for the church, yet they do not.
Or we see many people that have claimed they have accepted Jesus, yet really has not.
They have grown up in the church-either their parents/grandparents have taken them every Sunday and they hold to their faith, or they have been going long enough that they feel everything is good and right.
What they must understand is that at some point they have to make that commitment or decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior to have a true relationship.
I have been in a couple different churches and seen first hand these people.
When we would set down with them, it was only then did we learn the truth of were they stood.
Many will stand before the Lord and hear these words
You have to make the faith you claim your own.
Second, those that are saved and don’t hear the Lords calling.
Share story of guy that missed the boat.
There was a flood that had come through after a heavy rain.
A gentleman was trapped on top of his house.
He prayed to the Lord for help.
Three times someone in a boat came by and offered him a ride to help.
Three times he turned down the offers and said he was waiting on the Lord to help.

Eli, being a priest, a man of God should have realized the first time that it was the Lord calling.
Yet, he didn’t because He was not walking as he should have been with the Lord.
We know this because of
1 Samuel 3:
The word of the Lord was RARE!
That shows a displeaser the Lord had that was going on in Israel.
In chapter 2 we see that Eli’s sons was making sacrifices that did not hold to the Law.
Instead of Eli confronting them and reprimanding them, he looked the other way.
When we look in the church today we see many christians that would fall in this group.
They have been a Christian for so long that their relationship with the Lord has gone stale.
This group of people know they are saved and have allowed things of this world to take priority over their time and relationship with Jesus.
Time in the Word or prayer is minimum or none.
They have grown numb to sin.
They fall into sin, yet don’t realize it because it feels right to them.
The Lord tells us what He thinks of those people.
This is not a place as a Christian we want to be.
Third, those that are obedient and do.
This group of people are what we should find in our churches.
We should be in such a relationship with Jesus that we hear Him and quickly respond.
In that response we are willing to do His will and not ours.
This group takes very serious.
They go, they do, they serve, they proclaim no matter what the cost.
Oh to hear the Lord say
Looking at all three, where do you stand?
