1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. 9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. 10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
I. The Charector of the relationship (1-4)
I. The Charector of the relationship (1-4)
A. I am the vine and my father is the gardener
Christ is the center if the Christian faith he is the source of life and the only way to eternal life
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
B. Every Branch in me that does not produce fruit he removes.
Just as with a grape vine if a grape vine does not produce fruit the gardner removes that section of the vine,
if a Believer does not produce fruit God removes that believer, this is not talking about removal from eternal life but rather removal from the world if we are a poor testmoney for Christ he will remove us.
C. He prunes every Branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit
Just as a garder prunes a grape vine God prunes us to make us more like His son. THis pruning is not easy, but it will result in us living a life that is more reflective of Christ and producing more fruit
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

D. You are already clean because if the word I have spoken
This word clean is used to refer to the disiples with the exception of Judus. The idea here is that through the teaching of Jesues the deciples had been pruned
E. Remain in me and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine
no branch can bear fruit by itself it must rmain a part of the vine. Just as the believer can not bear fruit f we are not part of Christ.
to remain in Christ we first must accept Christ as our savior.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
another part of this preservation of the saints
John
31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,
This is not to say the Lordship salvation is Biblical (it is not)
Explain Lordship salvation
F. Conclusion and application
Without faith in Christ no real fruit can be produced.
you can not bear fruit if you are not a believer.
The Bible clearly says here that if you do not abide in Christ you can not bear fruit.
Are you abiding in him today
9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. 10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
John
II. Capability of relationship 5-8
II. Capability of relationship 5-8
5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
A. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I am him
again we are reminded that Christ is the vine and deciples are the branches we depend on Christ for all things including life.
apart from him we can not hope to bear fruit.
B. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers;
This is refering to those who choose not to accept Christ as their Savior.
The dead branches are those who are useless theese are people like Judis who reject Jesues when faced with truth
C. the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
litterally if you do not except Christ you will burn in the lake of fire just as Judis
24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
D. The father is gloryfied when we bear fruit
8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
good works do not save us but by bearing fruit we prove that we are Christ’s diciples.
When we bear fruit the father is gloryifyed

9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. 10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
A. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.
Just as the father Loved Christ He loved us
and we must love others as Christ loves us.
B. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love;
Keeping my comandments is not intended to mean “keep the Christian rules but rather is refering to
50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
