14 for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,
“Awake, O sleeper,
and arise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.
Common expressions with time.
Ahead of time
For the time being
Have the time of your life
Make time
It’s just a matter of time.
Pass the time
Save the time
Time flies
Time is money
Time will tell
A waste of time.
All these sayings obviously have time in common, but we see time being used as a currency like money. Time is precious to all of us. We want more time to do more things. We want less time dedicated to things we don’t like such as work or school, and we want more time dedicated to friends whatever you want more time to do.
An article came out discussing one of our favorite tv streaming services called Netflix. In this article, they were talking with some of of the research teams at Netflix discussing what was their biggest competitors to get people to use Netflix more. Now at first glance, we think the likes of Hulu or YouTube or some other big name TV service. But Netflix comes out and say that sleep is their biggest competitor. They know that you will watch more stuff if you sacrifice sleep and continue binge watching whatever tv shows you like to watch.
They know that time is valuable.
The Bible also shows us that time is valuable, and if we are not good stewards of our time we can easily waste it.
The passage we read, Paul is very clear to this church. Make most of the time you have been given. We know Paul did. We read about Paul’s three years at this church and what happened while he was there?
They reached all of Asia with the gospel!!
Imagine brother Eddie announce from the pulpit that Springfield is reached. We do not need another church as every person in Springfield has been reached with the gospel. If the Southern Baptist said that North America was reached. That the IMB said that all of Africa was reached. That would be incredible, yet Paul was able to do that in the three years he was in Ephesus, cause he made the most of the time.
We are charged to make the most of the time. In this series ‘Living on Mission’ we are focusing on the fact that we have more time since we aren’t in school. So the goal I want all of us to come away tonight is to think about our day to day lives and how we can make the most of the time.
But we need to look at time itself. So I want to look at time itself, and provoke our thinking to what we can do.
First,
Time is to be spent Wisely
