The Baptism with the Holy Ghost

I. Intro
in our statement of faith.. we state… or we believe that having the baptism of the Holy Ghost is absolutely essential for our personal salvation...
just like toilet paper is absolutely essential when your using the bathroom.. toothpaste when brushing teeth..
we believe that thru the power of the Holy ghost we can live a holy life… separated… meaning that.. we dont have to do .. say .. or desire the same things the world desires...
John 7:37–39 KJV 1900
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
..... During the feast of tabernacles jesus stood and stated.. proclaimed.. that if any man thirst .. let him come unto me..
now this wasn't that thirst you get because your dehydrated.. or because its cold outside..
imagine being being adopted .. or growing up without one of your parents.. no matter how old you get or even if you have a step parent that longing for that biological parent is still there.. and will only be satisfied once you see them or find out who they are…
there is a thirst that we have in our souls can only be filled by the presence and power of God..
and once we have completely surrendered our life to God.. then we can receive the Holy Ghost .. which gives us a source of satisfaction...
it satisfies our need ..that thirst for God.. and at times gives us a hunger for more of God.. this flowing living water.. provides regeneration, guidance and empowerment..
Matthew 3:11 KJV 1900
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
..... john is saying look.. there is more God wants to give you… there is something than salvation.. there is another level.. another blessing… God has in store for you...
look .. i preached the word.. you heard Gods voice and didnt harden your heart.. and so you came .. yo confessed you that you believe in Jesus.. in the Lord and his power.. so he forgave you of your sin and now you have a new start..
lets go down to river and be baptised… let me dip you in as a symbolic gesture show how easy God washes away your sin… and as you watch all the water fall off you .. imagine that water being the sins you committed.. the thoughts you had .. the evil desires you have been struggling with..
watch them all fall off.. watch the water fall off you… and once that water is off you its gone.. and thats how God forgives you.. its gone...
but as beautiful and awesome as that is… there is more.. greater is coming.. there is another step..
Acts 1:4–5 KJV 1900
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
..... you see baptized usually means dipped or immersed into something… however in this text.. idea.. or thought.. it can also mean.. “uniting”...
think about our marriage vows.. united in holy matrimony .. til death.. your tied.. together.. yoked together..with God..
II. Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit
Matthew 3:11 KJV 1900
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
Luke 11:13 KJV 1900
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
III. Baptism with the Holy Ghost or Filled with the Holy Ghost
Matthew 3:11 KJV 1900
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
Ephesians 5:18 KJV 1900
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
…in ephsians .. the text is telling us that.. as christians we dont get drunk.. why because when you drink and get drunk.. because some dont know when to stop… ou are no longer in control or your body.. emotions .. and yes sometimes you thoughts...
and since we know that according to according to 1 peter 1:16 the bible tells us to be Holy.. why because God is holy.. and since we are created in his image .. since we are supposed to be the salt of the earth.. since we represent him…
we should not be controlled by anything other that God.. so we are to filled with the Holy Ghost..to the point where.. our thoughts are lead by him… our actions are lead by him..
and because we are filled.. meaning occupied by the spirit.. then instead of the manifestation of vomit, profanity, lust, evil imagination ..
the fruits of the spirit come up and out..
Galatians 5:22–23 KJV 1900
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
this is a good time to stop and say.. everyone that says they have the Holy Ghost does not… it use to be.. if they never… and I mean never .. speak in tongues .. even after a 3 day shut in.... then that was a tell tell sign....
but now.. everybody speaking in some kind of tongue…the devil got a tongue too yall… but one of the biblical ways to know.. you dont have to go get in their face… but ask yourself do they speak in tongues.. do they exebit the fruits of the spirit...
IV. Who is the Holy Ghost
the third person of the trinity- father , son and Holy Ghost..... let US make man
Genesis 1:1–2 KJV 1900
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Genesis 1:26 KJV 1900
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Matthew 3:16 KJV 1900
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
1 John 5:7 KJV 1900
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
2. His Personality
a. the Holy Ghost has intellect-
1 Corinthians 2:10 KJV 1900
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
b. the Holy Ghost has knowledge
1 Corinthians 2:11–13 KJV 1900
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
c. the Holy Ghost has emotions
Ephesians 4:30 KJV 1900
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
d. The Holy Ghost hs his own will and makes decisions
Acts 16:6–12 KJV 1900
6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, 7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. 8 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. 10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them. 11 Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis; 12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.
V. The role of the Holy Ghost in Salvation
Pre- conversion - before you were converted
John 16:8–10 NET
8 And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong concerning sin and righteousness and judgment— 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer;
2. conversion
Titus 3:5 KJV 1900
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
John 3:5 KJV 1900
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
VI. A gift to the Believer
John 14:15–17 KJV 1900
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Luke 11:13 KJV 1900
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Acts 2:38 KJV 1900
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
