1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. 4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
Gal 6:10
I. One another v. 1-2
I. One another v. 1-2
1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
A. Church Dicipline
1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
Gal
This is an istence of Church dicipline. Rember the puropse of church disipline is resortation
notice what it says, the believers should resore him, however they need to watch that they not be tempted too.
3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst 4 they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. 5 Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?”
we see seveal pasages in scripture of how sin was delt with incorectly
3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
Jihn 8:3-5
John
John *
27 When the seven days were almost completed, the Jews from Asia, seeing him in the temple, stirred up the whole crowd and laid hands on him, 28 crying out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man who is teaching everyone everywhere against the people and the law and this place. Moreover, he even brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.” 29 For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, and they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple.
Again the goal of a christian should be to resore. This task of resoration is to be done by those who are spiritual meaning the believers who walk in the spirit. and who are meture in faith.
this work of restoration must be done carefully and gently and with the knowledge that no one is imune from falling into sin.
B. Lend help v.2
2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Gal
The christian that has a servents heart helps with the heavy loads. the context here is the oppresive weight of temptation and spiritual falure while the spiritual do the work of restoring all believers should be involved in prayer and encorgement.
when paul says it will fulfil the law of Christ. he is refering to the principal of Love
14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
John 13
The point is we can all fall into sin and the better than thou art attitude has absolutly no place in the church,
However we must come along side fellow believers who are in sin with the desire to restore them
II. yourself 3-5
II. yourself 3-5
3 For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. 5 For each will have to bear his own load.
A. We are nothing
How many of you have known someone that thinks they are someone special let me read you a quote
“yall don’t go to sleap while Im talking hay don’t you lay your head down, im importent im somebody now you might do your english teacher that way but Im not teaching english I am teaching eternal life here I love you you know I love you have I convinced you I love you you better nod your head yes you stay awake and listen to me… you say he may never come back… well he is not here now and where have you been and I know on the calender im supposed to marry yall what makes you think I would marry you you are the sorryest church member I have you are not worth 15 cents and you want me to marry you to her and you want to marry him and he don’t even know where he belongs and you don’t even know where you belong let me tell everyone here how much I love theese kids im the real deal if yall don’t want me all yall need to do is tell me we wolnt have a church fight we will get in our little buick thagt is paid for and we will sell what we need to sell and we will find some little podunck church that don’t know up from down and ill find me a dozen joes baskets that don’t have a pot or a window and ill shout Jesues and Ill give the rest of my life to them
-not only is this man full of himself he is a pastor and a church bully
Don’t be full of yourself and don’t be a church bully.
Church bullys are bad they are worse when they are the pastor.
B. His own work
3 For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
4 But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor.
The idea here is that instead of comparing himself with others one should take an objective look at what God has allowed him to do and instead if taking pride in himself we should take pride in what God has done through us.
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
Rom 12:
C. Carry the Load
5 For each will have to bear his own load.
This does not contridict verse twa
2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
this is because the reference in vers 2 is to heavy or crushing loads that are more than one man can bare without help the wrd here is to designate the pack which would have been caried by a roman soldier
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
There are responsibilities and burdens every believer must bear which can not be sared with others
