"But have nothing to do with pointless and silly myths. Rather, train yourself in godliness. "For the training of the body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” ()
In chap. 3:14-16 we find the call of the church to uphold truth.
3:16 summarizes the truth for the world to know. It’s the truth Christ’s coming and resurrection (the saving gospel) that “in later times some will depart from the faith” (4:1).
Good servants of Christ Jesus point out these things and nourishes his congregation to “train yourself in godliness”, which, “is beneficial in every way”. (,,). It’s “trustworthy and deserves full acceptance.” and we “labor and strive” for godliness because we’ve put our hop in the living God, who is the “Savior” especially of those that believe (vv9-10).
Salvation is a act of God’s free grace. (Look up )

God takes away our sin by the shedding of the blood of Christ.
How does describe it?
__________________________________________________
So those that are in possession of this salvation by grace with their guilt and penalty being removed by the blood of Christ are said to train themselves “in godliness”. So what is it?
Godliness is the sacred impression and workmanship of God in a person whereby they are made spiritual people. When, by God’s grace, the soul of a person is wrought upon by God, they don’t receive another soul but “a different spirit” ().
Let me lay down seven position concerning godliness. It’s...
Real.
Godliness hast ‘truth’ for its foundation. What’s the ‘way’ chosen in ? _______________________________
Godliness is not shadow, but substance. Godliness is a ray and beam that shines from God: if God be true, then godliness is true.
Deep-seated.
Deep-seated.
Godliness lies chiefly in the heart. Look up and remember that circumcision is spiritualized here graphically portraying a surgical work hat involves cutting away the flesh.
Where exactly does Paul say that our circumcision took place upon? _____________________________________________
. Where does God teach us wisdom? ___________________________________________________
Watson, T. (1829). The Godly Man’s Picture Drawn with a Scripture-Pencil. In Discourses on Impor
Think of God’s creation. The dew lies on the leaf, the sap is hid in the root. The moralist’s religion is all in the leaf, it consists only in externals: but godliness is an holy sap which is put deep within.
Supernatural.
Naturally we inherit nothing but evil. How did Paul describe his old life in ? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________
We did drink down sin as naturally as we drank down milk as a baby!
