Committal Service: Jack A Moran (November 12, 1919 – May 25, 2019)

Good Morning my name is Jeff Pagel, I am the Pastor at First Baptist Church here in Sunnyside.

Thank you for coming to this service for Jack. To honor his life and his military service. The passing of our loved ones and friends is always a loss and a sad occasion. But for those who know the Lord, as did Jack, it is a joyous occasion for them because they are now in His glorious presence.

Our loss, therefore, is their gain, this is also a cause of rejoicing and thankfulness during our sorrow because God has conquered death through, Jesus Christ, and because of what death means to those who have trusted in Jesus Christ.

Jack A. Moran, 99, known to many as “Jackpa,” longtime valley resident passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2019 in Sunnyside, Jack was 5 months short of his 100th birthday.

Jack was born on November 12, 1919 in Kansas City, MO the son of Frances and Jack Moran

Jack served in World War 2 with distinction in the United States Army from 1940 to 1945.

Jack served in the Pacific Theatre, received a Purple Heart and other battle medals while serving.

Following the war years Jack worked as a prison guard at the Soledad Prison in Soledad, CA

And for several years before managing a Lumber Yard also in CA.

After moving to the Lower Valley, he drove truck for various companies throughout the Yakima Valley for many years.

Jack is survived by two sons, Rodney & Mary Moran of Grandview, WA and Bill and Roxann Moran of Prosser, WA.

He is also survived by a stepdaughter, Wanda Schilperoort of Sunnyside, WA, one granddaughter, three great grandchildren, ten great, great, grandchildren and two step-grandsons.

Wanda Schilperoort and her sons Tyler and Craig are here with us today.

He is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Pearl Moran and 2nd wife, Mildred Moran, one daughter Jackie Holder, three brothers and two sisters.

I didn’t know Jackpa and have only had a bit of time to gather some information about him.

I heard some husband and stepfather of the year type words. Here is some of the ways Jackpa was described…

Jackpa was also a man of faith…he attended Sunnyside First Baptist Church for many years. As years went by and he was unable to attend anymore, when asked he would emphatically say

“That when I die, I’ll be going home to be with Jesus.”

You know in our hustling world with work, farming, crops and then all the recreation stuff. Jackpa’s simple faith, spoke volumes to the people that were around him. JackPa is in the presence of the Lord. visiting and associating with those who went before him and waiting for who are still on earth heaven bound.

I want to share a passage of scripture from the New Testament, In “Jesus said, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.’” Then He asked, “Do you believe this?”

It is the Christian’s belief in Christ and belief in the resurrection that is the basis of our encouragement and so comforts our hearts as we face the loss of our loved ones and friends.

Committal

In the light of these promises God has given us in His Word and in as much as it has pleased the Lord in His sovereign wisdom and purpose to take from our midst one whom we have loved, we now commit this body to its final resting place to await the fulfillment of another promise of Scripture. In , writing to the Thessalonians church, the Apostle Paul wrote:

Brothers and Sisters, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. These words by the Apostle were written for our encouragement in times like these.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the glorious hope and for the great consolation concerning those who sleep in Jesus as believers in Christ. that our Lord Jesus Christ has prepared a place for those who have placed their faith in Him, and that the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

And now for the family, for the loved ones and friends we ask that:

there might be the recognition that You work all things together for good for those who love you; and that precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints because death is the calling of a believer home and into God’s presence;that there might be a casting of our care upon you to find comfort in the knowledge of what death means to our dear friend who is now with you; andthat you would comfort and strengthen in the days ahead. Help the family and friends to rest and draw strength from you.

These things we ask in the name of the King of kings and Lord of lords, even in Christ our Savior.
