Introduction

One of the most valuables truths as a child of God is the truth that we have eternal security.
Now there are people and religious groups who do not believe this is a true doctrine or teaching from the Bible.
Now if you are here today and perhaps you do not agree with the doctrine of eternal security.
That is ok, but I hope you will consider my thoughts with open ears.
So why consider it at all.
Eternal security is an important doctrinal point of view, for
(1.) it nourishes our faith, (2.) it drives away doubt, (3.) it helps us understand God’s calling and will for our lives and (4.) it is key I believe in understanding our position as sons and daughters.
So with this in mind I want us to look at a couple passages of Scriptures and see where the Lord leads us.
The first is , verses 39-40
John 6:39–40 ESV
39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
The second is
John 10:27–30 ESV
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
Both of these passages are from the gospel of John, but there are other passages we will look at as well. but if we begin here I think we can find support and help for any questions we might have....
So lets being and lets consider why we can believe and accept the truth of eternal security.
So lets begin here.... with God’s Love!

1. Eternal security is Bound in God’s Love....

Now I start with the topic of God’s love because i believe this is where is truly begins…
The Love of God is one of the attributes of God that defines His plan and work in this world. Without a doubt we could say with great assurance that God loves us…
It is love that compelled the God to redeem us from our sin and bring us into the family of God. It is His love that sought to set right man’s failures and disobedience.
It is Hisl ove that sought to set right man’s failures and disobedience.
The world was perfect, sin did not exist, but then Adam and Eve sinned against God, the devil, the serpent deceived them and sin was birthed into the world, and man fell in their relationship with God,,
But God in His omniscience knew what would happen and in love, He had already prepared the Son to come into the world and at just the right time.
Adam and Eve sinned and sin was birthed into the world
The love of God is best seen in and 17
The love of God is best seen in and 17
Eternal security is Bound in God’s Will...
John 3:16–17 ESV
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
John 3:17–18 ESV
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
John 3:16 ESV
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:
Wow, how wonderful is this … God demonstrates His will and love for all mankind so that none would perish but have eternal life. Jesus came to save the world, to redeem it.
I would beg you to ask the question, How could this work be so perfect if it could be lost… His love is perfect and mighty
Listen to , vere 8
But moving on… Listen to , vere 8
Romans 5:8 ESV
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
So He gave the Son…
So He gave the Son…
How could God give His Son, How could give sacrifice the Son, and it not attain what He planned… He would not.
The death of Jesus saves, all who would come...
The work that Christ does, in heart of man sustains and keeps them. He saves them...
To save, means to keep, to secure … we are safe, and we have eternal life.
The love of God is shared to save mankind from their sin, it is a complete act and it has no one of no thing can lose it or let go of it once enjoyed...
But let move forward… eternal security is not only bound in God”s love,
But it is also bound in his will.
So lets consider the will of God in salvation...

2. Eternal Security is Bound in His Will...

s Bound in His Will...

I believe with all my heart that Eternal Security is bound in the will of God. The will and plan of God is to save man from their sin, to restore them, to bring them back that they might enjoy again what was once lost.
I cannot conceive that God would do something so wonderful and after partaking of this gift, we could lose it.
But yet that is the direction of some people, so lets talk about the will of God.
The will of God is that none should be lost…
John 3:17–18 ESV
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
“That none should perish...” But have eternal life.
Let me take you back to the Gospel of John
John 6:39–40 ESV
39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
John 6:39-40
In the annuals of time, before the foundation of the world, God loved us, and in that love he planned to redeem us, He planned to send his Son so that none of us would be lost or perish.
Look at what Jesus says there in verse 39, this is the will of Him who sent me.. it is the will of God, that Jesus the Son should lose nothing, no one that God the Father has given Him.
The work of God is a sure progression. From the beginning to the end, God completes His great work.. Let me share .
The word given him spea
Romans 8:30 ESV
30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
Now people get nervous when we talk about the word predestined… So dont get lost in that one word...
But Paul does tell us, The will of God is that those who are His, those who have received the Son as Savior, those he has justified, literally made right and just in His eyes.. until that day we see Jesus and then are glorified...
The will of God is that those who are His, those who have received the Son as savior, those he has justified, literally made right and just in His eyes.. until that day we see Jesus and then are glorified...
Look back to verse 40 in
John 6:40 ESV
40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
Again this is the will of my Father Jesus says… That everyone who looks on the son and believes, in him should have eternal life… and it is not a temporary work, it is not a partial work.
The end of verse 40 says… I will raise him up on the last day.... It is a lasting work....
At the moment of His return, the dead in Christ will rise… they will go home and there with will sit down at the table, the marriage supper of the lamb and they will enjoy His presence, and will worship Him forever and forever...
All of this is uniquely tied to the will of the Father. He loves us.
Remember ;, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. I and so blessed that God loved us even in the sad shape we were in… He saved us and that work is complete and eternal.
Aren’t you thankful the Lord loves you?
Man I am, and I am thankful His will has cared for me....
Now lets move forward and consider this thought....

3. Eternal Security is Bound By His Work...

Eternal security is the work of God alone and no one else, especially not us.
There is a great myth out there in the world that I can live a good life and surely God will not judge me… I do the right things, I might even come to the church some, but my life, lived for me and rightly before others is enough…
That is a lie straight out of hell, right out of the devils mouth.
I cannot grant myself salvation and with it eternal security and and I cannot lose my salvation and with it my security in Christ.
Why? Why do I believe this to be true?
Salvation is not tied to me, it is entirely the work of God.
The reason I know this to be certain is the truth that salvation is uniquely the work and gift of God.
Two verses of Scripture tell us the significance of this here
Romans 6:23 ESV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Paul tells us here of our condition, the sin in our life, it brings death. but God in His great love for us has given us life, in Christ Jesus. It is a free gift, man has to only reach out and take it.
It is provided to us as the gift of God, not our work to earn, but his gift to receive.
So it is freely given my friends… His love extended to man...
Listen to Eph 2:8-9
Ephesians 2:8–9 ESV
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Grace is such an important word my friends, the old saying explains grace to us as: God’s riches at Chris’t expense.
It is the good and perfect will of God, freely given to those He desires.. His good will is to reach out to the world and extend this free gift.
By faith, believing we receive it and enjoy the blessing of it. It is his most precious work in our lives and we are speechless to say the least.
But Paul makes it clear, it is not our will or work, it is His work.
If I had anything to do with my salvation, I guarantee you I could mess it up,
But His work is one thing we are not, perfect and holy as He is perfect and holy.
How wonderful is the work of God.
But also understand His work is one that I cannot alter, it is one that cannot be changed...

4. Eternal Security is Sure and Safe Because of Who He is.....

In John chapter 10, two of the great I AM’s of Jesus is explained to mankind. The first Jesus says I am the Gate and the second Jesus says that He is the Good Shepherd.
Now toward the later verses of , we find Jesus is sharing one of the greatest attributes of the Good Shepherd, that being He never loses any of His sheep.
Lets go back to , verses 27-30
John 10:27–30 ESV
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
The sheep, refers to the believers of Jesus, us. Being His sheep, we hear his voice and we follow Him.
There was a point and time for every child of God that you heard the call of God in your life, the call of come and follow me. Come and be my disciple and we answered, we trusted by faith and received Him as Lord and Savior.
And as verse 28 says… I give them eternal life.... When we called upon the Lord, He saved us, he gave unto us eternal life. The most interesting truth here is the fact that the phrase says I will give them.. in the Greek it really says I present them with… not conditional and not delayed for a future time.. it is I give them at that every moment eternal life.
And listen to what is says, they will never perish.
And listen to what is says, they will never perish.
We can never perish, never be lost.... The word perish in the Greek when you trace its usage, says that there is no loss, no destruction of the soul of man. It is also what is said in
John 18:9 ESV
9 This was to fulfill the word that he had spoken: “Of those whom you gave me I have lost not one.”
The shepherd does not lose any of His sheep.
Now the end of verse 28 Jesus says “no one will snatch them out of my hand.” Now the word “snatch” in the Greek says that “ no one can take them away, not one can hastily grasp them.”
They (His Sheep) are safe and secure in His hand. and it ties uniquely to
John 6:37 ESV
37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.
No one can take them from the Shepherd and the shepherd will not cast any of them away.
Now the thought continues in verse 29
John 10:29 ESV
29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.
The Father is greater than the son, speaks to the fact that there is no power who can contend with the Lord our God. And because God the Father is so powerful, remember He is the almighty God. It is impossible for true believers to be lost.
Now why do I say true believers? Jesus said himself not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of Heaven.
why?
Sincerity.... Those who are His will act like Him, talk, like him and be like Him. we will be like Jesus. we are not professing Christ one day and then back in the world the next day living for self.
There is a definite change in the heart of a child of God. I am not saying the get it all overnight… but I am saying you are growing daily in the grace and knowledge of the Lord.
Now back to eternal security… no one can pluck them out of the Father’s hand.
No one, says nothing, no body, no one can snatch them out of His hand.
But Jesus ties it all together with a picture of the Triune God in verse 30,
John 10:30 ESV
30 I and the Father are one.”
I and the Father are one… this is not the first time Jesus has said this …
John 8:58 ESV
58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”
John *;58
John 17:11 ESV
11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one.
Jesus can uniquely keep them, just as the Father can and does because they are one.
The Holy Trinity… God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit
And since we have mentioned the Trinity, listen to the continued work of God in the Holy Spirit.
Two passages from the Book of and 4:30
Ephesians 1:13 ESV
13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
now....
Ephesians 1:22 ESV
22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church,
Ephesians 4:30 ESV
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Ephesians 4:30
At the moment of our conversion , at the moment we confessed and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, we were sealed… to seal means to keep safe, preserved until the day of His second coming...
And on that day, we are made perfect, our sanctification is complete and we are with Jesus… praising him for ever and forever..
You see eternal security is a special, wonderful doctrine that we can hold onto and believe. I have just scratched the surface of its truths, but it is enough to motivate us to do better and better each day, striving for the Lord and seeking to share this kingdom with the world around us...
Eternal security is bound in His love, His will, His Work and because of Who He is… He is Jesus. The one true God of the universes, and the redeemer of my soul.
Are you thankful to know Jesus. I am thankful to be his child and to know unconditionally He loved me and is keeping me until that day when I see Jesus!
Do you know Jesus today?
Are you walking with Him?
Lets pray...
Eternal security is bound in God’s Will
Eternal security is bound in God’s work
Eternal security is bound in the work of the Holy Spirit
