7 / COPING WITH CONFLICTING PERSONALITIES
Text: “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men” ().

I. Be Composed

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee” ().

A. Many are easily irritated. A lack of composure makes them vulnerable to the attacks of conflicting personalities.

B. We should remain free from agitation as much as possible. Self-discipline is an aid in handling personality clashes. Confidence in God brings calmness and control ().

II. Be Considerate

“Let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.” ().

A. Some are inconsiderate. They try to force their ideas on others. Pressure adds to personality conflicts.

B. We must have regard for the rights and feelings of others (). Kindness and respect go a long way in coping with conflict.

III. Be Courageous

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering” ().

A. Some lack courage. They compromise or give up their convictions. They fail God and themselves.

B. We must be brave, holding to principles that are based on God’s Word (). Firmness is often necessary when dealing with conflicting personalities.

IV. Be Christ-like

“Walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us …” ().

A. Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. But He never compromised with sin and wrong.

B. We must also love others, holding no resentments. Although we must be firm in our convictions, there is no defense against love. Love enables us to cope with conflicting personalities ().
