When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they came together.
And one of them, an expert in the law, asked a question to test him:
“Teacher, which command in the law is the greatest?”
He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
This is the greatest and most important command.
The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.”
“Teacher, which command in the law is the greatest?”
He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
“Love for God is delighting in him and a desire to know him and be with him.”- John Piper
“The greatest commandment is to love God with all that we are and have — heart, soul, mind, strength, possession, service. To love God is not to have a good feelings about Him, for true love involves the will as well as the heart. Where there is love there will be service and obedience.” Warren Wiserbe
The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
"Love of God can’t be divorced from love for one’s neighbor.” - Warren Wiserbe
If anyone says, “I love God,” and yet hates his brother or sister, he is a liar. For the person who does not love his brother or sister whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
And we have this command from him: The one who loves God must also love his brother and sister.
