This verses tell us about two types a fathers: those who followed the Lord and were a good example, and those who rejected the Lord, they did not learn from their parents, and became bad example to their children. Thousands of years later, through the pages of this book, they are still remembered, either as good or as bad.
Those mentioned in v. 12 could remember their fathers as good examples of obedience to God:
Judges 2:12 NASB95
and they forsook the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; thus they provoked the Lord to anger.

Judges 2:19 NASB95
But it came about when the judge died, that they would turn back and act more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them and bow down to them; they did not abandon their practices or their stubborn ways.
Judges 2:19
As fathers, we’re leaving a legacy to our children, either good or bad. The question is how will your children remember you?
As fathers, we’re leaving a legacy to our children, either good or bad. The question is how will your children remember you?
Will they remember you as the drunkard? As a good provider? As the good athlete? As the absent father? As the spiritual indifferent? As the lukewarm Christian?
It was the second game of the European Champions league. Ajax of Amsterdam was facing Tottenham Hotspur of London. At the end of the first part, Ajax was winning 2-0. On the second part, Lucas Moura, the Brazilian striker, scored two goals for Tottenham to even the score. Then on minute 96, again Moura scored a third one to give the victory to his team and leading them to the final with Liverpool.
When he was interviewed after the game, Lucas’ words were repeatedly “God is wonderful”. On his Instagram, he posted “For nothing will be impossible with God”.
Although most people will remember him for that feat, he said, “Without a doubt, any player wants to be remember for any thing he might have done in the field, the games, and the titles. I also want that, but, above all, I want to be remembered by my example as a person, as a man of God, as a person with a good attitude, and I believe that’s what matter the most, the character, the good example that helps others to find God.
I have always said, “I want to be remembered as a man of God”, as “the always present father”, as “the good husband”, but mainly, as a man of God.
