Finding Jesus From 9-5

You know I spend a lot of time talking about how we should conduct ourselves in the body and in church how to treat one another. Preach on marriage quite a bit. Preach on kids pretty frequently.

But I have never preached a message about work i have mentioned it but not a whole topic.

This chapter tells us how we are supposed to walk. Practical christian living. 7-13 Brothers in sister (church), 18-21 family 22-4:6 it talks about servants and masters or bosses and Workers.

This passage tells us how to conduct these areas of our life

in reality for those of us that have a vocation an occupation church and family that is were we spend the least account of our time

We spend most of our time at work

Now even though I have not specifically ever addressed the topic of how to conduct ourselves at work God has thankfully

One time a pastor polled his church to find out what their needs were so he could meet them and one topic that kept coming up was I wish i could know what the bible says about how to deal with the problems and the pressures at work.

There are a lot of challenges there. There jim at the water cooler . There is the IT guy that is wondering why you visited the weather channel when the storm came through and what that had to do with work.

There is your boss who does not understand leadership or communication and does not set clear expectations or tell you how you are doing but creates all this tension and you are do not know how to bring it up it is scary.

How many of you have had a work Problem ? Am I right i saying this if you are unhappy at work you are unhappy?

If things at work are bad things are bad.

How many have had a weekend ruined because of work? Boss I need to talk to you first thing Monday serious stuff we got to get cleared up. But do not worry about it now go home enjoy your weekend. What a jerk now cant sleep.

Had a date ruined because of work.

Problems at work they can rob your joy they can grieve you frustrate you and frankly if not dealt with biblically they can ruin your life.

So how do we navigate our 9-5 job or 6- 3 or when i worked construction 7 -3:30 biblically

We Must Have a Proper Ambition 3:17,23

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

That says we are to do it in the name of Jesus

My friend Jared cuts grass and I love the brother

I say thank you for your service he laid the sod in my yard he said I do it in the name of Jesus

In other words can I sign God's name to it?

I went to a zoning hearing they said who do you represent I said i am here on behalf of Habc

I am here on behalf of Jesus Christ he is the firm i work for. I am his servant.

A little boy goes down to Frontline to get himself some Jordans. Now he picks those shoes out because his hero Micke Jordan has his name inscribed on them. Now Jordan presumably has put his name on the shoes because he says, “These shoes are consistent with the way I play ball. They are good shoes. I approve them. I can put my name on them, because they are consistent with my character, my personality, my ability as a ball player. If you get them, you’ll know that I put my name on them.. Because they represent my character, my personality, I put my name on it.” Now methinks he put his name on it to get some money; but I’m just saying, theoretically, he put his name on the shoes to say, “They are consistent with the standards that I hold,” isn’t that right? “I endorse it. I put my name on it.”

Can jesus sign of on why you are doing your Job?

Is it consistent with his name ? Does it glorify him?

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Why do most people get a Job?

To provide to eat to pay the bills out of necessity

Why do they go beyond the basic necessities and go to college and learn new skills and grow and become great so to speak

If your goal is to be rich you fail

IF your goal is to get to the top you fail

If your goal is to have power you fail

If your goal is to be perceived as important you fail

To be successful

To fill a hole in their life

You can never be successful at work until you have the right end goal in mind

To glorify the Lord

Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:

to catch bosses eye service

When boss is there act different than when he is gone

Dan sleeping on the job hammock

Men pleasers I want my boss to be happy with me I want to be esteemed in his eyes.

No sire we are to have one aim that is to the glory of God

We are to have a single reason why we work

To the glory of God

All other reasons come in secondary to that reason.

On one of these train platforms where they had a commuter train a little boy out there had shoelaces and apples and fountain pens and little notions he was selling. He had his little basket; all his little things there, selling to the commuters there going back and forth. And one man rushing to catch the commuter train knocked the little guy over, and his stuff went sprawling all over that platform. And all the commuters were coming by and stepping on the stuff and everything. He was trying to gather it up. His change was running across there. The man never even stopped to say, “I’m sorry”—just knocked him aside and got on the train.

One man saw what happened. He put his briefcase down; he got down on his knees with the little fellow, and started gathering it all up. Finally, they got it all together. He said, “Son, I’m so sorry that man was rude to you.” And he said, “Son, here’s some money to make up for it. I’m so sorry this happened to you.” The little boy looked at him as the man picked up his briefcase and started off. He said, “Mister, are you Jesus Christ?” He said, “No, son, I’m not; but I’m a follower of His, and I’m doing what I think He would do if He were here.” That’s what it is—I mean, just acting like Jesus, just living like Jesus. Is it consistent with the personality of Jesus Christ?

Begin to live like that on Monday.

What is the reason you work?

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

We Must Have a Perpetual Awareness 3:17

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

You must be aware that there is no separation between your work life from 9-5 and your church life.

Every christian is in full time ministry

IF you stay at home with the kids you are watching his Kids

If you go to the office you are going to his office and your boss is Jesus.

whatsoever you do (no separation)

Only separation is in our imagination

There is no separation between what you do for the Lord here and there

The only separation between the secular and the spiritual is in your minds

We tent to compartmentalize our lives

Well I go to work now I am carpenter or a professional I am a accountant or a secretary

Then we go home and now I am dad I got to be dad

Then we go to church and now we are spiritual we are a christian

And most people they do not overlap

They change who they are based on their location.

The man at church sounds different than the man at work

The man at home sounds different. Than the man at church.

Brethren these things ought not so to be

Please do not teach my kids how to be a hypocrite and change who they are based on their location

Like a lizard or a chameleon.

Listen we change hats but we do not change who we are

Do not be modest on Sunday and immodest on Monday

Do not be a blessing on Sunday and a bum on monday

Do not call on the Lord on sunday and curse on monday

The curse of the twentieth century is Sunday morning religion. Now there’s nothing wrong with Sunday morning religion, but the problem is that so many people have only a Sunday morning religion. Somebody wrote these words: “They’re praising God on Sunday, but they’ll be all right on Monday: it’s just a little habit they’ve acquired.

Do you know the mistake that so many of us make? We want to divide life up like a pie. We’ll have just certain slices. We say, “Well, I’m a good Christian; and so I’ll take all of my money, and I’ll divide it up like a pie. And I’ll take one-tenth of my money, and I’ll give it to God. I’ll take a one-tenth slice and say, ‘That belongs to God: take that out, and give it to God.’ ” And then, we boast—we say, “Oh, I gave a tenth of my money to God.” And then, we’ll take our time pie and we’ll say, “Well, not only will I give one-tenth of my money; I’ll give one-seventh of my time. I’ll give God one day out of seven. I’ll go to church, and Sunday will be a holy day.” And so we give God one-seventh of the time pie. I’ve got news for you, friend: When God comes to judge your life, He’s going to judge the whole pie—the whole pie! It all belongs to God: every slice; not just simply when you come here and put your offering in the plate; not simply when you come here and admonish one another, and sing in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.

Aside from sleep the biggest number is work

If you do not take that into consideration you will not have a great judgment seat experiences.

Do not leave out the biggest part .

Because God is not going to leave it out.

Now isn't that a blessing

Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

Work does not have to be a waste of time

It can be redeemed

You not your boss determines whether it is a waste or not.

Your occupation does not dictate weather it is a waste or not

The only person that dictates weather it is waste or not is you.

Jesus is there from nine to five you just need to be aware you are serving him

We Must Have a Positive Attitude 3:15

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Man work can get so stressful cant it.

I mean things beyond your control

Meetings and messages emails

I envy the day of no cell no email

Everything today moves at the speed of tech.

I was coming to the office the other day

Someone stopped in front of me the person behind me did not stop call the police and it is like nine hundred degrees get to the meeting the storm takes the windows out the roof of and than friday no electric at the church for the retirement ceremony. I mean on top of a long week. Than the insurance adjuster called we have to meet it cant wait so i go on the roof with him for an two hours. And had to fix the internet. Than get ready for today just in two days.

Not just me we all deal with that kind of thing. If you are not dealing with stressful situations than you are not getting paid very much. The more you reduce stress on the boss the more you get paid.

Say what do I do when all that is coming at me?

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts

God is over all of this and in the end it doesn't even matter but to have peace in my heart in the midst of the storm and lean on him is what matters.

He told adam and eve to have dominion to create order out of chaos.

He has all dominion but he wants them to take a little responsibility manage a little bit of the chaos and create order.

He was teaching them to be like him

He creates order in the universe and he has peace and he manages asteroids floating around whizzing around.

He manages things like how long we have left before the sun burns out and the earth freezes to death. So when we got out little thing going on we can look to him and get peace

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Joyful

Have a song in your heart and a spring in your step.

Listen happiness is contagious.

If you are happy at work people will like you even if they do not like you

He will cause even your enemies to be at peace with you.

No one gets ahead at work with a negative attitude.

If you have a bad attitude you not going to glorify the Lord at work.

He had a good attitude on the cross and your job might be bad but it is not that bad

Just remember you have the job you deserve.

Just remember you have the boss you deserve.

No one gets ahead at work with a bad attitude but you even get ahead in prison with the right attitude.

Joseph is the greatest example of that.

And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.

And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

Here Is God blessing a lost man in egypt because one of his servants was there

Are you bringing the blessing of God to your job?

When a man goes down to the employment agency to look for workers, he ought to say, “And, by the way, if you have any Christians, send them over. I don’t understand these Christians. They get to work on time. They don’t complain. They work hard. They serve. They go the extra mile. They’re sacrificial. They’re honest. I can trust them with anything. Well, man, you’d think they think I’m God. I don’t know what they have; but, boy, they’re different from anybody else.” Are you different from those around you on the job? You are if you have Monday morning religion. I mean, again, can you imagine the influence this would mean? Whatever you do, he says, in your secular employment, do it as unto the Lord. ()

You say, “Well, I’m not getting paid enough for that.” You’re getting paid far more than you realize. Notice verse 24: “Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” () You can’t give a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple and lose your reward. Don’t look at that paycheck; look at that hidden paycheck. You’re doing it as unto Jesus. Question: Wouldn’t this city be a different place if everybody left church this morning to go live this way on Monday morning? I mean, if wives lived this way, if husbands lived this way, if children lived this way—wouldn’t it be wonderful if employers and employees lived this way?

And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.

But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.

The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.

Wow joseph could get a job anywhere and as soon as he got there people would be like man this guy hwo did we get him

And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.

And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

This report is written to Jesus

This trial is endured for jesus.

Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

Most of the World would love to have a job but in america among christians wrongfully so we look at work as a obstacle to service when we should be looking at it as an avenue of service

Than at church

Be thankful

Most mellinials do nto think the get paid enough no matter how much they make.

Be thankful for your Job God gave it to you

Be thankful

If you want a better job outgrow the one you have.

Never forget the way out of work problems is to outgrow them.

It is an opportunity for you to grow.

Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as men pleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:

God said that

Submission obedience

God is ok putting a lost man over you

He is ok with putting potiphar over Joseph

He is ok with putting the prison guard over joseph

He is ok with Daniel being under the master of the eunuchs

He is ok with his people being under a task master to a certain point.

God's ok with it are you ?

Obedience is a big deal to God.

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

do not drag your feet or complain

People have problems at work bad bosses

people that do not understand leadership

Someone that drives you nuts are you going to complain or pray and learn.

You can learn how to communicate.

You do this win thier love you will have no problems at work look I am here to serve you.

But you resent them drag your feet just make it worse

I would look for laziness i could smell it

I still can

When I sense laziness I exploit it.

Come to work i had pot of coffee already. I am excited we are going to build this whole house this week.

If someone did not share my enthusiasm. And looked lazy. Hi sir good morning we need that stack of plywood around back. I figure you should be able to move one sheet back there every minute so let me know how many sheets you have in 20 minutes.

You will be the person doing the grunt work for the rest of your life if you do not apply this verse.

Do you have a positive attitude at work?

Or do you play the victim

Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

You should have an expectation to be rewarded of the Lord that you serve him

And even if the inbetween boss overlooks you the Lord will take up your case.

We Must Have a Providential Assignment 4:3

Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:

You are there to be a light

This is where we interface with the world

This is where we can shine as lights for the gospel

This is were lost people are forced to spend a lot of time with christians

This is where they can read the gospel our lives are an epistle read of all me

This is were Christ can be magnified in our lives

This is where they are forced to face the reality of a life that is changed by the Lord.

The people we are around the most

This is were daniel can affect nebuchadnezzar and lead him to the Lord.

Everyone knows the story of Naaman the captain

The officer the warrior

They know about his leprosy and how he went to see elisha

And how he went to dip in the jordan river

But they don't know what prompted it

Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife.

And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

Thank god for the little maid that was there by providence

76 year old woman got saved this week in his store.

He has a class full of millennials he teaches and he led most of them to the Lord at work at his store.

How many people got saved by a coworker ?

Listen you are there for the men and women you work with

You are literally in bonds to speak the mystery of Christ.

Survey watching mouth at work

They do not watch mouth at work

Struggle with having a good testimony

Hard to be spiritual at work

We tend to not look at them with a eternal perspective

We do not look at them as having a soul a wife and kids.

God is not caught off guard about your coworkers he is either working on you or working on them.

Get ready for work spiritually not just put on your makeup get prepared spiritually

Act_1:1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

people try to do a good job at work but do not open mouth or open mouth and never do anything one is hypocrisy and the other is heartless

All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar's household.

Even caesar was faced with a christian on a daily basis.
