Works, what part do they play?
Good godly works, mission work, servicing widows, orphans, works in the community, all good works, right?
(Insert Get ur done picture)
As a body of believers, locally, and universal too, we hear of many missionaries and ministries that cry out for help to get the work of the kingdom done.
They get cries for local help, regional help and world wide help.
Some for money, some for people and some just for prayer.
As Christians we are to be active in all places (1Cor1:2)
As Christians we are to be active locally and globally, in every place.
May we remember God is the God of all and wants to touch all, so all can come to repentance and be saved.
As we do this, serve locally and globally, in every place may we also know that we are to:
As Christians in encouraging one another too (Heb10:24-25)
God created us for good works (Eph2:10)
Good works God prepared us to do, to do with Him!
Good works God prepared us to do, to do with Him!
Good to dwell on things that are good and put into practice (Php4:8-9)
Today we are are going to dwell on, ponder, consider, reflect upon and meditate about
Purpose of good godly works
Nature of good godly works
Results of good godly works
Purpose of good godly works
It is important to note good godly works, there are things we can know about them, and best way to know is to look at what scripture says.
_____________________________________________________
Good godly works cannot save us (Eph2:8-9; Tit3:4-7)
We are saved “to” good godly works (Eph2:10)
We are to be zealous in our good works (Tit2:11-14)
______________________________________________________
Good godly works cannot save us (Eph2:8-9; Tit3:4-7)
Good godly works cannot buy us, earn us entry into the kingdom of heaven, for it is only by grace we are saved.
We are to be zealous in our good works (Tit2:11-14)
God saves us because of His kindness, love, and mercy
Good godly works cannot save us (Eph2:8-9; Tit3:4-7)
We are saved “to” good godly works (Eph2:10)
In other words, because of our great salvation that we have due to the kindness, love and mercy of God and faith in Christ Jesus it should result in good godly works.
Good godly works cannot save us (Eph2:8-9; Tit3:4-7)
We are saved “to” good godly works (Eph2:10)
We are to be zealous in our good works (Tit2:11-14)
There are things regarding works that we need to “be”
Be ready (Tit3:1)
We need to be ready for every good work
Ready by being subject, by being obedient.
Be careful (Tit3:8)
To careful to be engaged for that is good and profitable
Be devoted (TIt3:14)
Be devoted, as you are careful and ready in case there is urgent need you are not found unfaithful.
Be doing good godly works
(expand for 1-2 minutes only)
Why do you think we should be ready, careful, devoted and doing good works?
So that,
Be seen
_______________________________________________________
Be seen (Mt5:14-16)
Be observed (1Pt2:12)
Be examples as Christ exampled (Lk6:40)
It demonstrates our faith (Jm2:14-17, Jm2:20; Jm2:26)
It makes gospel message more receptive (1Pt2:12)
It meets the dire need of people (as noted in Tit3:14)
______________________________________________________
Be seen (Mt5:14-16)
Be observed (1Pt2:12)
Be examples as Christ exampled (Lk6:40)
Good godly works brings glory to God, to the Father who is in heaven
It demonstrates our faith (Jm2:14-17, Jm2:20; Jm2:26)
Be seen (Mt5:14-16)
It makes gospel message more receptive (1Pt2:12)
Be observed (1Pt2:12)
It meets the dire need of people (as noted in Tit3:14)
Be examples as Christ exampled (Lk6:40)
Difference between being seen and being observed (expand 1 minute)
It demonstrates our faith (Jm2:14-17, Jm2:20; Jm2:26)
It makes gospel message more receptive (1Pt2:12)
Be seen (Mt5:14-16)
Be observed (1Pt2:12)
It meets the dire need of people (as noted in Tit3:14)
Be examples as Christ exampled (Lk6:40)
We are trained, equipped for good godly works as Jesus exampled for us for He led by example (i.e.
washing disciples feet)
It demonstrates our faith (Jm2:14-17, Jm2:20; Jm2:26)
It makes gospel message more receptive (1Pt2:12)
It meets the dire need of people (as noted in Tit3:14)
Then when we look down just a few more verses see what it says
Faith demonstrated is good and godly, but without works it is useless, or then look at what else is said
faith without works is dead!
It demonstrates our faith (Jm2:14-17, Jm2:20; Jm2:26)
It makes gospel message more receptive (1Pt2:12)
It meets the dire need of people (as noted in Tit3:14)
So we have, seen and glorify God, observe and they glorify God, and that is not it, there is more.
It demonstrates our faith (Jm2:14-17, Jm2:20; Jm2:26)
It makes gospel message more receptive (1Pt2:12)
It meets the dire need of people (as noted in Tit3:14)
in case you forgot the passage, here it is again
So good works are important, we are trained, equipped, commanded so we should not take them lightly.
When we have an understanding and appreciation of good godly works we can then move to the nature of the good godly works we should be doing.
Nature of Good Godly Works
What does the scripture say about it?
We are to care for widows and orphans (Jm1:27)
Look what Jm1:27 says about who and why when it comes to good godly works.
We have scripture role models beyond Jesus (Act9:36-39)
We are to be giving in our good godly works (Act20:35)
Are we practicing pure and undefiled religion?
We are to help the weak (1The5:14)
We are to restore the wayward (Gal6:1-2)
Let us be ready to encourage the fainthearted , help the weak, and restore the wayward and thus fulfilling the law of Christ, which is love.
We are to proclaim the kingdom (Lk9:2; Lk10:9)
Now how about proclaiming the kingdom of God to the sick, those in the hospital?
