Covenant Love and Affection
Covenant Love is very important to us as Christians - because of the greater good we can do when we work together. Covenant Love is the foundation Christians have to build all of their relationships on. It is based on the Covenant we have with the Father as members of His Family, His household, His Love that we “Love one another” by building quality relationships within His family.
New Testament Christians reserved their physical love and affection exclusively for one another – and in many ways. The kiss they shared was called “a holy kiss”, “a kiss of love”, “a kiss of peace”. Exclusive meals “agape feasts” were also shared – only with those they knew and trusted - those in Covenant Love and Fellowship, with Pure Hearts.
I believe a proper understanding of this principle is important for Christians because the more we practice gooood and proper things in our lives the more they will keep us from evil. If we don’t practice them – we become weak and more easily tempted - we give room for sin when we are not satisfied. The more good we do and enjoy – the better! Christians that know how to love each other are stronger then those alone and cold.
“Above all, keep fervent in your love and mutual affection for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins”. 1 Peter 4:8
“Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose”. Philippians 1:2-4, See Colossians 3:12
“AND ‘DO NOT TOUCH (kiss or love) WHAT IS UNCLEAN’; And I will welcome you . . . I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” Says the Lord Almighty. 2 Co 6:12-18
“Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.” 2 Peter 1:1-10, I John 1:9
