Gifts of the Spirit 2

I don't know how you can you could listen to that piece of music and not be affected. When I I heard that this week. I just began to cry at the end of that song. It was so touched and thought you know there that the most beautiful instrument in the world is the human voice amen and it was designed for that. Very purpose. I mean in imagine if if a group of young people can do that, imagine what it's going to be like in heaven. I mean, this is like an arcade in perfect kind of bodies. I can just imagine what the choruses of you know, I'm singing it of experience of worship will be on that day when we get to heaven. If I were to continue our study that we started 2 weeks ago in the gifts of the Holy Spirit to the vvitch. We spent over five weeks remember from from the resurrection to the Ascension right and talked about what happened during that time. And what all transpired and why Jesus said to the disciples when you left go to Jerusalem and wait for the outpouring of the holy spirit in your life, or you will see Power and of course, we know that they went to Jerusalem and them they were all in one Accord and then we celebrated Pentecost. Was it 3 weeks ago already man, it'll it'll be Christmas before you know, it's like almost the end of June. For the day of Pentecost with the Holy Spirit was poured out on the church. Hopefully you understanding that the whole purpose of the series is to understand that. under the ministry of Christ There was a time.. But these things were happening at the church was being established in crisis commissioning his disciples. And of course they making propitiation for our sin as a pheasant Hebrews chapter 1 verse 1 after providing propitiation for our sins. He is sending to the right hand of the father and now it's theater. They're making intercession daily. Trust but he told the disciples there's one more thing you need before you can go into all the world and preach the gospel making disciples teaching them everything that I have taught you and that was the power of the Holy Spirit. We saw how the Holy Spirit was with men and women before the day of Pentecost all throughout the Old Testament and through that. Of the New Testament when Christ was here, the Holy Spirit was with people empowering them for certain things, but he was not living in them in Jesus says, I'm going for the father and when I go the comforter will come so don't be sad because if I don't go the comforter cats come so we saw that the end of Jesus's Earthly Ministry when he ascended but then we saw the opening of what we are now in the ministry days of the Holy Spirit and what we said last week was that the holy spirit's job and function in the Believers of life is to do three. Does anybody remember what they were but the teacher in me now, right? Okay, number one. Why does Jim Empower you to be a witness for him? Right? Remember we said two-thirds of God's name is go go. That's the message and we said that the Holy Spirit helps us worship God in spirit and in truth and we said the number 3 that the holy spirit is empowered people in the church to build up the church so they can go and make disciples and worship God in spirit and in truth. We looked at a fusions Chapter 4 verses 11 to 13 and we'll get there in a moment. But we said that when Christ ascended it says from the little park into the Heavenly said he gave gifts to the church Apostles prophets evangelists pastors teachers days when he offices that were given to the church in order to what meet its goal. And remember we said I want you to put everything out of your mind what you think you think about titles and labels. The problem is for the last two thousand years men have created titles and labels that says that okay, if you know, what does it mean if we say and the costal what does it mean if we say fundamentalist? What does it mean if we say this man is attached meaning to things and all of those issues to become clouded. So I just want to know what the scripture has to say, Amen. Okay good. So, please don't bring anything to the table. I want you to just simply walk with me through the word of God it is we look at these things specifically now in the offices that Christ has given to the church for the forwarding of the Gospel the equipping of the Saints to do the ministry. Remember we said that last week about the minister. It's backwards now everybody looks up here and says, oh there's the minister know. I'm not the minister. I fall somewhere between Pastor teacher. You're the minister, right? So you were the ones that now are doing a Ministry the ministry of nursing the ministry of paramedic the ministry of administrative assistant the ministry of variety in National Guard, you know, whatever it is you're doing that's your ministry. That's what God is going to use. That's why I put you in this place and he's going to empower you to do it in a way that will bring honor and glory to him that will bring people to the Cross. So this is the whole premise of the study that they didn't end at the end of the first century and we'll see that today. Once again that the Church of God is still being built how in the world are we supposed to accomplish the task? If we don't have the tools to accomplish the tasks that God sent us out to do it. So that's the sort of the review of where we have been last week this week. I want to open with the things in chapter 4 verse 7 Paul wrote this But to each one of us and who's us. I saw that share this word Christian appear here today as a Christian. This is speaking to you but to each one of you. Grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift Lord me to thank you for your word today and ask that you would bless it that you would drive it home in our hearts Lord. We just don't want to be reading words. Your your word says that your word is powerful that it transforms into changing it renews and it restores our lives. And so God, we pray today that you're Holy Spirit would lead us and guide us as you promised Invictus Lord in the areas that we need convicted Empower Us in those regions in those areas that you want to move in our lives, but Lord more than anything let a conformist to the image of Christ in our life just a little bit more today in Jesus name. Amen annotations Paul tells the believer that they have been given now it says here but to each one of us Grace was given I got news for you. The word grace is the word terrace. Right and the word terrace is is the root word. Of course where we hear the word Charis Maddock now again, don't bring anything to the table with that. You think that means I want to explain clearly what that really means delete one of us was getting Grace was given a gift. Something was given to you. Every person in this room has been given a spiritual gift. It's not for you. It's me. It's to be used to minister to somebody else in this body. I believe with all of my heart then in this Fellowship. There are some Apostles some prophets of evangelist and Pastor some teachers some administrators some that have the gift of Prophecy. So I'm going to have the gift of interpretation. Someone has a gift of encouragement Summit have to get the hospitality Every Day gifts that the holy spirit is given to the church is in one of you to serve in this body. That we'll talk about it self edification gets later when we get to the spiritual guess but I just want to start the study with the offices in the Reason God gave these offices was to equip you to do the ministry not to me. Although I have a responsibility to do ministry also, but we are all in this together, right? This is what is Benny's big part was was he believed in every person's Ministry that the ministry just wasn't somebody who wore a frock in a backward collar and said, okay. I'm a minister know there's lots of people that are like that damn no idea what the Bible has to say, but you have been equipped for a specific purpose in the body and outside the body and that's why the Holy Spirit and the gifts are available to you to accomplish. That task now it's interesting. As I said here that the word terrace. Means that it's a gift it's something that you received from someone else and of course, we know we have received these gifts from God. He said I'm going to give you the holy spirit is going to Manpower use going to be your Source be your comforter be your conductor. So it's a whole package deal that we have it's not just simply one or two things. It's the ministry now the Holy Spirit and his job. Jesus said when I send the Holy Spirit, what's he going to do Bible scholars?

Magnify me. Okay. So what we have at our disposal all of the guests all of the offices all of the working of the Holy Spirit to do one thing Point people to Jesus Christ, if you see someone who's exercising a guest and it's pointing to them they're wrong. Because that's not with the Holy Spirit came. He came to testify of Christ. That's why every time when I deliver a message, I always try to bring it back to Christ because that's what it's all about. It's about him now, right and the work that he has accomplished. Show me said that the word Charis means to receive something from someone else and to then use it right the reason we've received these gases to empower the believer to preach the gospel. I said that worship God in spirit and truth and the building up of the Saints. These are the three ministries of the holy spirit that will accomplish the goal of building the church. Imagine. That's what we're supposed to be doing some things we get confused. Like we got our jobs confused with what we're supposed to be doing our jobs allow us to be here so we can do those things and reaching out to the people around us and we'll talk today about the apostolic call, which is like a call to the nation's versus your responsibility as an individual to be a witness for Christ to the person who's sitting next to you at work that needs to know who Christ is so we said you're The Minister's we've been empowered to do the job that Christ commissioned us go into all the world and preach the gospel Worship the Lord in spirit and truth and train the disciple train the ministers and how to do the ministry the patience for 11 to 13 reread these words in himself gave some to be Apostles prophets evangelists pastors and teachers for what reason they

Mine, it's on the board for the equipping of the Saints for the work of the ministry. Okay, so that's all you guys that's why he's giving these offices in the church and these gifts. These offices are at work. It says until we all come to the unity of faith and the knowledge of the Son of God to a perfect man to the measuring the statue of the fullness of Christ made it to the fullness of Christ in their life today course not we're still on that Journey. The church is still being built. So it's still an ongoing process. So these offices and I want you to think about These positions as callings not as titles. We've gotten confused. We've created religious titles for people and their people that hold titles that have no demonstration in their life that they are actually they belong in that particular title because man is defined it a specific way. So I want you to think about these things Pastor Prophet teacher and Angeles as a call in someone's life. I always put it this way if someone gives their life for Christ we say there are marter, right and we seen it right we've know that the churches that we were working with in Iraq lot of people gave their life for Christ because they refuse to write to say I don't know who this guy is. I'm a I'm a Christian and they were they were killed for it. So we are Martyrs and that really, what's a martyr. A water isn't somebody who will die dying just proves that they were already a martyr, right? They've already made the commitment. They already said whatever it costs I'm going to do it and that will pull itself into this Apostolic calling as we begin to look through the scripture apostles. Or the word apostolos in Greek is a shipping term here. Like what the heck? Does that have to do with anything?

What it meant was it was a vessel that was filled with something and sent it was dispatched on a journey for a specific purpose and that Journey was not a return Journey think about like an expeditionary team that is going to go to another place and establish a new thing. What's a good example? Okay, nice is looking for some people that want to go to Mars. Anybody want to go to Mars. Here's the quid pro quo if you you want to go to Mars. Well, okay. I'm not sure your mom will have to get out.

But let's say you get picked for that job and you come to the job description. Are you come down for your interview? And you're like, yeah. Okay. I'd like this. This sounds pretty cool. I'm going to go to Mars. Okay. Yeah, but you're going to die there and never come back. Wait a minute. I'm not coming back, but that's exactly the word apostolos means a vessel that has been dispatched on a mission and that's it. There is no return part of vest and so

It's those who have a special commission to establish new works and then they move on goes through the Epistles and you'll see the Apostle Paul goes and he establishes a Church Point Elders. He stays there he spends time with them. He teaches them and then what does he do? He sets them free and he goes somewhere else and he starts another church and he builds there any be raised his men and women to be the leaders in the church and he gets his going and then he goes he didn't create the denomination of the Saint Paul Apostle love, you know, Siri or whatever. He simply establishes the church gets a functioning and then he moves on Now there are men that established churches that have multiple churches under their Ministry but isn't necessary an Apostolic call because that's more of a bishopric kind of a call where I'm managing multiple Works underneath. The Apostle is the one who is wholly committed to the task of establishing new churches understanding that their life is not their own but they were beholden to the one who has sent them. Literally, it's an expeditionary group who leave a known.

First space and are committed to establishing something to knowing they will not return to their old way of life. I think that some of the people that we support have an Apostolic call in their life. They have given their life to establishing churches to get them going and then they turn them loose they come back and they check on them, but they're not they're running their Church go there to Mentor the men and the women that are went in that church. And if you read that before Paul goes to Rome and he goes to prison what happens all the people are on the beach crying because they're like Paul please we don't want you to leave us so but I have to do what I have to do. That's an Apostolic person or the call that comes with it. Now the focus isn't on the position of an apostle. The focus is on the mission being sent. Polish Center established churches, I believe Pastor man that we support in the Paul. He has an Apostolic call in his life. He's given everything to established churches in the Paul where there are not churches and I think we've shared with you the vision that they have they have a poster in their church that has a little church in the middle of it and it has about 20 concentric Rings going around the outside. I'll try to find the picture for you for next week. And their vision is we start one church and in two years. Church starts another church, and then the two years those churches start another church. And then in those two years those churches start another church, and they have a 10-year plan to start 1500 churches in the fall. Best that's a vision and he has given everything to see that Vision come to past. He has gone everywhere is to be preaching the people that are living in caves up in a mountain two and a half days walk with, you know, Terry and speakers on their back with a projector to show the Jesus movie and take blankets and witness the people That's a lot different then. I'm just going to witness to somebody next door, you know our our personal responsibility as far as witnessing is concerned no Mark chapter 20 chapter 3. There's an interesting verse When Jesus appoints the disciples to send them out. It says this then he appointed twelve that they might be with him. And if they might send him that he might send them out to preach now, this is King Jay some versions that you have will say and he appointed. Twelve Apostles the word Apostle is inserted there. Because the word he might send them out. Right send them out. It's just one Greek word and that Greek word is apostolou. Did you catch what I'm saying? Apostolou Apostle isn't a person it's a call to Jesus call them to be the ones to go out and share the message. Now. It says that they were appointed of the word their ordained for the work and that would their means that they were empowered by the person who commissioned them. Isn't that so important because we've been empowered by the person is commissioned us to go. Amen. That's why we have the Holy Spirit now it is so we have that Divine Authority the word that is used are always referred to a Divine work and activity and it focuses on the unceasing unchanging nature of God's actions joke about it. We use that word sometimes all the way, you know. Well, it was just ordained to happen. Well, what do we mean? Okay. God made a decision and nobody can change it, right. And it's the same thing with that calling people's lice or nits in an Apostle's life. There's just something in there that they would Burns and then they just got to go and do this and they've got to keep doing it. They they keep planting churches and who knows, you know, maybe they'll be buried think about all of the great pioneering missions people that went to China and India in Africa and all the nations that gave their lives. They left everything knowing that they're going to be buried in that place and they never look back and they spent their life establishing churches. This is an Apostolic call in someone's life interesting that it says when they sent them out. It means it's an active interest verb that indicated that there was a moment that they were sent and it still is continuing and there's no end point to that. When we know where the endpoint is. They gave it to us and Asian when we all come to the fullness of Christ in us, so it's still going on the ministry of the Holy Spirit. The apostolic call is still available to people in the church today into the believer. The problem is nobody wants to step up to the plate and take the call because it means everything. It's not a simple thing and it's not something that to be entered into lightly because it's a responsibility that wants you to assume it. It means everything belongs to God. There's a word there with in that sentence. He said there were two things. He appointed them to be with him and to be Messengers to go out and isn't that what we are now we've been called to be we are no longer outside of the family are with Christ. Amen. It's the word meaning togetherness. It wasn't simply just to be be around like today at 11 with you. But you know what Adrian and I are going home not come with us.

What is if we were with if you were with us as the Greek word here with is in the genitive case, it would mean that when we left here you came with us and you went home with us and when we went to work you want to work with us and I would say it's like I'm sure you've heard that person Shady. Are you with me? Are you with me in this thing? It means Lock Stock & Barrel, and I won't go there but you probably no point of going to say no matter what the circumstances are. No matter what happens. We're in this thing together boy, doesn't that sound like a marriage commitment, right? If two people Truly Come into that relationship and say We're In It Together what happens everything I have is there is everything they have is mine the problem with our relationship with God is everything God has he's given us but sometimes we're like, okay. I'll give you this or I'll give you this one everything I have what I have belongs to you. And God says, what would I have belongs to you? And that's why we can lay hands on the sick and that's why we can have strength to face the Giant and say in Jesus name. This thing will not come to pass. You don't want to see a logical dictionary wrote this about this the term with its about personal character. It denotes the totality of person working together or coming together who accompanied one another sharing everything in the task heading to their destination are eating each other supporting each other showing everything they own all of their possessions which demonstrates that they are joint heirs together. Yeah, that's that's a powerful verse or powerful explanation. And that's what we are. We are co-heirs with Christ if we would think about what that means. They could really literally change us and our relationship with him. So I'm 34 Verse 3 the psalmist wrote this. Oh magnify the Lord with me. Let's do it together. We're going to be together in this thing. You know, we're going to go through good times really go through bad times when I go through a hard time. There's going to be times. I didn't take a bath before I come in to get out the smell my stink. We just got to put up with it because we're in this thing together.

Let us exalt his name together. It's a call from the song this to a shared Destiny for all of God's people. We're in this thing together all of our intellect Are Spiritual possessions. All of it should be expressed in pursuit of a shared goal, which we said was the magnify Christ. So those who don't know who he is will come to know who he is. To the Ministry Office of apostle or the call of the apostolic. It's still in operation today. And I said although we see fewer and fewer people willing to pay the price. For the responsibility of assuming they call their men today that say they call themselves Apostles that if you go back to what it means to be an apostle. You don't see that happening in their life. They might be Bishop bang. They may have churches under them but they're not well. Driving throwing everything away and gone to do everything. We know men and women that have done that and are still doing that today. It's time to start churches. It's in their DNA. North just simply to build an Empire and sit at the top of it and say, okay all of these churches are mine. No, that's not an Apostolic call again, that's more of a role of a bishop Elder overseer managing all of those works, but the apostolic is like I got to do something new. I'm not taking over somebody else's work. I got a plant something. I got to start a buy they got to see it grow. I'm in a commission memo. I'm going to keep them trained them. Let them go. Okay. Now I'm going to go and start one someplace else.

That the destruction of the city of Babylon at the end of the story in the Book of Revelation where all of the merchants are. It says in their ships looking at Babylon burning in the distance crying because they're like who's going to buy all of our Goods who's going to you know, take the fabric in the oil and everything in Babylon is burning in the distance. We read this being said to the Apostle John Rejoice over her own heaven and you Holy Apostles and Prophets. Well, it's Apostles and Prophets ended back in the first century. Then who are all these people that Jesus is talking to in the Book of Revelation their men and women who gave everything it says that the blood of the martyrs cries from underneath the altar God. When will you avenge our blood? Enrollment. We read the following verses 16 and verse 7 pole race this so they add your notice and Junia my Kinsmen and my fellow prisoners who are of note among the apostles. They're also very price before me so poor he was talking about two people most likely a man and a woman most likely husband and wife because every time we see a man and woman's name together most of it there were married couple it's over here. We have a situation of a husband and a wife possibly. It was functioning in an Apostolic. Louis in churches. And Paul said not only that there were in prison with me. Well, isn't that the market is it that we sent as a mark of an apostle when willing to give it a okay. You could have all ended in that prison for them. So again, we see outside of the normal in a we think about the 12 apostles. We think about the Last Supper picture, right? Oh, that's it. Just 212 them but I got news for you know, they were the first and in the sense of of being used to write the holy scriptures that is ended no new revelation. But the apostolic call is still there for people who are willing to pay the price and you know who you are in this room today. There's something inside of you that's like don't like you. That's your thing. You want to see people grow in Christ. You want to see churches established. You want to see the word of God moving in the land. You may have an Apostolic call in your life. If we take it at face value I said this is possibly a husband in the wife that were engaged in church building activities and we're willing to be prisoners for the cause and not for sure is the mark of someone with an Apostolic to him even though they were in confined space and spit on it and all of the things that happen to them in that place. His heart was in the right place and he was willing if this is where it ends. This is where it ends that again. Is it Apostolic call Revelation chapter 2 verse to the Church of Smyrna?

Just as I know your Works your labor your patients that you cannot do those who are evil and you have tested those who say they are Apostle. So again, we see that from the day of Pentecost until the joy that Christ returns. There are people functioning in the role of the apostolic in the church today. Now, some of them are false and some of them are and of course Paul always says to us, I didn't tell you the judge people outside the church because you know their centers are you surprised they said you shouldn't be surprised that I didn't tell you if a brother comes to you. Check his fruit. Judging the wrong people were sitting around saying all those people look at that boy. Look what's going? Well, we should be taking care of our own internal and again, of course, they were measuring the ministry of these people who were saying they were Apostles and they find that they weren't So again, we see it was still in action even up to in through the Book of Revelation.

It acts chapter 9 and will getting close to wrap this up for you. There was a man named ananias and there was this guy named Saul of Tarsus. It was persecuting the church. It was telling Christians putting them in jail in killing Christians, and he took letters to go to the city to bring whiteboard questions to put in jail in killed. Go ahead is traveling on that Journey. He was jumped off of his horse right down to the ground and he he cried out Allure. Who is it? Because the voice said that I'm so sorry. Why do you persecute me? And she's like, okay, who is this? This is Jesus that you're persecuting and it says scales came over his eyes and he lost his sight and he had this encounter with God on the road and if they had to lead him into the City and put him in a place. Auto apartment, they're mean well, it is quiet time in the morning with his full into me. Right and it says always very close to this Richard. I want you to go down to the house of the Tanner and there's a guy named Saul there and I want you to go in 3/4 that guy like a wait a minute. Isn't that the guy who's like killing people if I go down there he's going to arrest me. Says no, don't worry. I've already made the way and so what does he do? He goes not in concern for his own life knowing that this guy could kill him when he goes to see him. Can we read a verse 17 and ananias when is way he entered the house laying hands on him? He said brother Saul the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road. As you came has sent me that you might receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit the world there has sent me the word apostolou. So you see it that the apostolic is a call. It's not an office to be pursued in a scent like a title to be presumed. I want you to Call Me Prophet. Can I want you to know man you missed the Mark? It's about the call to be in a response to it that is important in the church today in John 8:42. Jesus said this to them if God were your father you would love me for I proceed. 4th and I came from God nor have I come for myself, but he that said me guess what word is their apostolou same thing because it's about the mission. It's about the call. It's about the function of the office that makes somebody as we would say an apostle. Revelation Revelation 18 we got to John 8 Cynthia received a gift or the apostolic call is at work in the church. Clearly today said the mission for those with the gift of the Apostle of apostleship today are to plant new Ministries in churches. Go to places where the gospel has never been preached reach across cultures to established churches and love and challenging environment that describe some place right raise up and develop leaders call out and Lead pastors and Shepherds. And disciple then they often will function in many different gift allowing them to fulfill their Ministry. So if they go into some place, there isn't a profit. There isn't an evangelist there. Is it a pastor a teacher there isn't somebody that has the gift of interpretation so they have to move and all of those gifts until God begins to raise up people in the body to fulfill those roles and hopefully as we go through these roles some of you here, I believe as I said before in this room today, I have the gift of, you know, pastor of keter of prophet of evangelists there here in this room today and that's why when we go to worship. I always encourage you if you feel like, you know, God wants you to say something or you want to read a scripture then come up and tell me. Dinner to make is that word could mean the freedom for somebody sitting in this room today. And that means you got that call that gift of prophetic or the prophet and God wants to develop that in you so don't ever be afraid is pulse and don'ts trifold to guess let them come forth, right?

So these are leaders of leaders in Ministers of ministers that are influencers Missionary Church Planters. There's lady multiple Ministry in churches will also have an Apostolic calling Kettle in his dictionary writes this the emphasis of Jesus to his Apostles was on service and their willingness to speak at suffer or even die if necessary on behalf of the message. there was never any talk of an office or authority given to them man is created the political office to try to copy the power the original call Christians today or being empowered by the Holy Spirit to complete the pastor preaching the gospel establishing his church building up the Saints to that same and listen to call of an apostle is a heavy burden and should not be easily accepted because it means everything they put everything on the table and say God here. I am use me. We recognized and Apostolic calling in someone's life by the fruit of their Ministry. Amen. Not the words of their mouth. Somebody come into. I'm in a really let's see. What what are you done? It's like, how can you just say that right do you qualify?

In Apostle, it's about serving. It's about a total commitment to the building up of the church now to call the office of Pastor teacher Elder. These are these are functioning in a different way. Then we talked about the apostolic calling the church today. It means I've got a burning desire to see the gospel move forward to see people get saved. She charges get established and I'm going to do whatever it takes. I'm going to give everything I have. I'm not even going to think about going back to where we came from. I mean, we're going to move on. Not everybody has that. Jesus told the Rich Young Ruler going so everything you have incoming phone to me. He told the Rich Young Ruler that So don't just go and sell everything you have because maybe that isn't what God wants for you. It's your responsibility now to get with the Holy Spirit and learn how to hear his voice and listen to what he's asking you to do or what or where he's asking you to go and that's what the study is really all about identifying what gift it is that God has put in you maybe it's not at office the God's calling you to maybe it's something as simple as you but just the hospitality. God wants you to stand at the door over there and greet people when they come in and that's your thing or be involved in the food Ministry in the back or maybe you are a teacher and God wants you to just sell him to Sunday school while the Friday club. We don't have Sunday in the Friday Club in the back and find out what it is. God has equipped you to do and then begin to let the Holy Spirit bring that thing to the surface and believe me. It'll be the most beneficial the most profitable the most exciting thing. That is ever. Happened in your life as we saw in the video. We don't just want to ride on the water. We want to be baptized in the water. And that means to be totally immersed in what God has for us. Thank you today. If you're worried. I just asked where you help us to bring just be in line with your word. It's not rocket science. You said you gave gifts to the church. Holy spirit will give us power to accomplish the tasks that you gave us to you. Didn't hang out like a carrot in front of us would make it impossible to grasp the vision of the goal that you put in front of us. You've given us everything concerning Gallina star Ministries our life and our encouragement to complete the task that you've called us to do.
