Sermon Tone Analysis

*Introduction:*

 

(1)   We are gathered here today in the sight of God and these witnesses to join (Man) and (Woman) in the holy bonds of sacred matrimony, an institution by God ordained, by the Lord Jesus taught, by the Holy Spirit upheld, and by the laws of the land decreed to be lawful and right.

I.

Brief Sketch of Marriage:

 

A.

Instituted by God (Gen.

2:18-25)

 

1.

Notice that she was not taken from the head of man to rule over him, nor from the foot of man to follow behind him like a slave.

God took her from the side of man that she might take her place beside him as they walk down the path of life together.

2.

God intended that the man and woman were to leave their parents and to cleave to one another; thus, becoming one for life.

B.

Advice from God:

 

1.

To both of you –

/“Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails”/ (1 Cor.

13:4-8a).

To (Woman)  –

“/Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, 2 when they see the purity and reverence of your lives.

3 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes.

4 Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

/(1 Peter 3:1-4).

To (Man) –

“/Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives //as their own bodies.

He who loves his wife loves himself” /(Eph.

5:25-28).

Vows (Please join hands):

 

A.

To (Man):

Do you (Man) take (Woman) to be your lawfully wedded wife?

To love, honor, and cherish, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer; and forsaking all others until death you do part?

B.

To (Woman):

Do you (Woman) take (Man) to be your lawfully wedded husband?

To love, honor, and obey, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer; and forsaking all others, until death you do part?

III.

Ring Ceremony (Is there a token of your vows?):

 

A.

Introduction:

The wedding ring has long been a symbol of covenant love.

As the ring is made of gold, it is to represent the purity and beauty of your love.

As the circle on the ring is never ending, it is to represent the unending love and devotion of your love.

B.

To (Man):

Take the ring and place it upon the ring finger of your bride, and repeat after me:

“With this ring, I thee wed, pledging my love and faithfulness to you from this day forward until death we do part.”

C.     To Leah:

Take the ring and place it upon the ring finger of your husband, and repeat after me:

“With this ring, I thee wed, pledging my love and faithfulness to you from this day forward until death we do part.”

Pronouncement:

 

A.

In as much as you both have promised your love and faithfulness to each other and have sealed your promise with an exchange of these vows, by the authority vested in my by the state of __________ as a minister of the gospel, I now pronounce you husband and wife.

B.     (Man), you may now kiss your bride.
