Jesus Encounters

Jesus healed the man at the pool
then He had a long talk with the Jews
then we pick up in John 6
John 6:1 ESV
After this Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias.
John 6:1-
John 6:1–6 ESV
After this Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. And a large crowd was following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing on the sick. Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.
Explain
John 6:7
John 6:7–13 ESV
Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little.” One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?” Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.” So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten.
Explain
John 6:14-
John 6:14–15 ESV
When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, “This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!” Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself.
Lets look at this a little more
John 6:1–2 ESV

Jesus was going to go rest but the crowd followed Him
John 6:5 ESV
Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?”
but He put His needs and conveniences aside to take care of the needs of others
so if we are to be like Jesus we need to learn to set our agendas to the side and do the work that God has given us!
- chaperone a car wash with the student ministry on a Sunday afternoon
talk to your neighbor when they are hurting even though you just want to lock yourself in your house
give when you don’t feel like giving
let’s look at Jesus’ encounter with His disciples
John 6:5–9 ESV
Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little.” One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?”
John 6:5-
As Christians we will be faced with problems that are bigger than our solutions/recourses
sometimes Jesus will even ask us to do things that we do not know how to handle
but just as He had the disciples come up with a solution
He may have you check out your options
when you bring your best and it falls short
He will take care of the rest
I don’t have the strength to overcome an addiction
but when I give my best God will take care of the rest
I don’t have the knowledge to share my faith with others
but when I give my best God will do the rest
I don’t have enough money to tithe and pay my bills
when I put Him first and do my best with the rest
He will stretch it to help make ends meet
I couldn’t possibly do _______
if God is in it and you do your best trust Him with what you lack
Now watch what happens
John 6:10–13 ESV
Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place.
John 6:10-
Jesus gave thanks before the meal. Even someone who has everything can be thankful
when we give what we can to bless others we will find that their will be leftovers enough for us to get a blessing too
more returned than sent out
God wants to use you to bless others
that is the blessing
to be used by God means:
you are desired by Him
you can be a blessing to others
you will find that the blessing is always greater when your serving is over than when it started
