From fear to faith: a look at the life of Gideon.

What were the sovereign foundations that were laid in Gideons life.

– whatever we do that is not born out of faith is sin.

1. – living by faith glorifies God. Abraham grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God.

2. – whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

3. – W/O faith it is impossible to please God.

; , This is the story of how Gideon moved from fear to faith.

What is the difference between being fearless and Courageous?

-Fearless – Doing something dangerous without considering the consequences.

-Courageous – Doing what is right and it might be dangerous after weighing the consequences of my actions. It might be dangerous in that my reputation might be at risk.

Two big lessons in this passage –

1. God built courage into Gideon.

2. God’s purposes were fulfilled in Gideon’s life because he responded to God’s movement in his life.

I. Gideon is like me. 6:11,27 He was

a. Fearful of others –

b. Doubter of God. 6:13 “the Lord has abandoned us and put us into the hand of the midianites.”

c. Doubter of himself. 6:15 “My clan is the weakest and I am the least in my father’s house.”

II. The power of God is found

a. In his presence – 6:16, 18

b. In His promises – 7:7 “I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands.

c. In His plans – 7:2-7 God’s plans for my life generally don’t make sense to me.

What kind of man did he become –

· There is only one story about Gideon in the scripture. After God used him all we hear about him is that he died.

o Lessons from life of Gideon

God sees the potential of a life fully committed to Him. God was looking throughout the whole earth and he saw Gideon hiding/working in a wine press. He showed Himself mighty on Gideon’s behalf – but mostly to bring glory to Himself.
