The Jesus Model of Discipleship

The fact that I am trying to be right with God is a sign that I am rebelling against the Atonement. ‘Lord, I will purify my heart if You will answer my prayer; I will walk rightly if You will help me.’ I cannot make myself right with God, I cannot make my life perfect; I can only be right with God if I accept the Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ as an absolute gift. Am I humble enough to accept it? I have to resign every kind of claim and cease from every effort, and leave myself entirely alone in His hands, and then begin to pour out in the priestly work of intercession. There is much prayer that arises from real disbelief in the Atonement. Jesus is not beginning to save us, He has saved us, the thing is done, and it is an insult to ask Him to do it.
Chambers, O. (1986). My utmost for his highest: Selections for the year. Grand Rapids, MI: Oswald Chambers Publications; Marshall Pickering. June 20
The path to the kingdom of God starts with a realization that we are spiritually bankrupt.
There is nothing under our power that will release us to walk in a life pleasing to God.
Only the atoning work of Christ can fulfill this role.

Matthew 5:3 ESV
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Faith consists of two key components, belief (affirmations of truth) and trust(personal reliance upon the Lord). In , Jesus spells out this concept when he asks the disciples, “Why do you have so little faith?” This is not a catastrophic failure of faith that is necessary for salvation. But a lack of knowledge on our part or acting without faith in a particular incident. Lacking faith consistently would be considered unbelief. Where as having little faith do not have a full grasp of the providential care of God. The little faith here was their lack of trust in a specific situation, not a lack of belief in Him as Lord and Savior. Jesus is looking for His people to not only believe in Him, but also to trust, love, and obey.(See ; )
